I will give the GTI two things - It definitely has a roomier back seat and I wouldn't mind having HID's.

The WRX is getting a little too pricey for me at $5 k more than my FR-S.
I'm not saying that the car isn't fun. It's a horrendous amount of fun, and that makes it valuable to me too. I recognize I paid the fee to get into the club, which is something a non-niche buyer might not be able to do (see: 50x FS threads where the car has < 5000mi).

$100 difference between WRX and BRZ base levels here. Though, to get the NAV and headlights alone you'd have to upgrade to the WRX Limited trim here, I think.

I love how people say throw such and such car into a corner and watch them burn..lol. Some of those cars have better times on tracks than a FRS/BRZ and no, I'm not talking about a drag strip with a straight line. There is always an excuse with members here.

Put some real tires on the 86 and its a different story. I believe there is a video with the 86 with real tires compared to the speed3, 128, GTI and WRX. I think the 86 was as fast as the WRX. Anyone else see that video and can verify?

Track time and handling don't always go hand in hand. Look at the Alfa Romeo 8c Competizone. Power up the wazoo and a faster track time but its a bad handler.

The 86 is a well engineered car.

unfortunately, unlike lap times or power numbers, 'handling' is subjective

but I guess that's the point of the car

And just so people know, mkvi gtis usually dyno 200HP to the wheels and typically have 210lbs of torque stock at the tires. I know its front wheel drive /thread blah blah blah, but in same everyday driving does it matter that much, neither of them are race cars in stock form. Just throwing that out there, and I only went with the gti because it was 5k cheaper and had a very nice interior, etc.
That price includes shipping. My FR-S was 24,200.00 before shipping, taxes, title, etc.

I somewhat wonder if most of the FS threads are in reality their significant others forcing a sale and they just don't want to admit it. Same goes for bailing on a purchase. Too many people associate the purchase of this car with being selfish. Most of my wife's family was "how do you fit your kids with their carseats in the back?", "can you fit groceries in the trunk?", "why would you buy a new car?", "did you think about your family", etc, etc...... Fortunately for me, I have an awesome wife (that I involved in the decision making process of buying it) that understood my passion for this car.

My wife forced me to buy the FRS. I had a del sol which I loved dearly and was going to get an s2000 or NSX. The back seats were the selling point.

So that's the secret to getting an 86. Threaten to buy something totally impractical and your wife will be happy to settle for the semi practical 86.

I would never buy this car for backseats though. They are useless and I would rather rip them out for weight savings.

That depends on how tall you are, I'm only 5'6 and my wife and friends can fit behind me just fine, but they are around the same height as me.

I am 5-9 and the seat touches the rear seat so no foot space for rear occupants.

I'm 6'3". I could stuff my kid's car seat behind me if I had to.

That makes sense if your kid is a baby in a car seat. But I notice folks who fit people in the back seat sit awfully close to the steering wheel. I like to be able to extend my arms.

I don't care how much faster the mustang/genesis/speed3/velociter/GTI is. Throw them into a corner watch them burn.

The only car I would consider at this price point is a used s2000 or NSX.
You came from a Honda Del Sol. You don't have much room to talk.

My 20 year old CT26 powered 3SGTE about what is considered "normal".
That's not normal for any car...... You must know you are talking about a lemon. Everyone can talk about their friends car that absolutely sucked. Doesn't matter what manufacturer it came from.

I have 2 VW's. A 2007 Rabbit and a 2009 GTI. Both have around 50,000 mi with absolutely 0 issues outside of normal maintenance.

I can't say I like the Rabbit much - I'll never buy another FWD car - but, the GTI is an enjoyable car to drive and very convenient with 4 doors and a hatchback.

Question

That's exactly why I was quoting Tsuchiya. I didn't say it, he did.

It doesn't take much to know that an FR setup will handle better than FF and that's exactly why I bought the FRS. Reading reviews, watching top gear or maybe a high school physics class should provide enough information to appreciate the merits of a light weight FR car.
