So i've been reading around and confirmed, not for sure but seems that after 7k rpms it seems that the "no lift" activates a couple of hundred rpms lower and below 7k it shifts about 200 or so rpm's after the clutch was pushed in. There was some discussion on whether the "no lift" should engage 500 rpms lower or so but nothing concrete. Lets see if we get a solid answer on this.

Hey everyone, hopefully someone can answer my question. I'm on AT STG1 pump and E85, and right now have a full tank of E85. It took 9 tries to start Ol' Blue today. It wasn't that cold, or so I thought. It was 52. Is this ok/normal? I made sure I was on map 2, my E85 map, but it just didn't want to start. Bear with me now, because I'm a noob with tunes, but should I be worried about my fuel filter gunking up with E85? A co-worker today said that it would, so I wanted to verify with knowledgable people. It runs awesome on it, I just don't want to mess anything up. I know some of the other guys were having issues with cold starts on E85, but I didn't think 52 was that cold.

When I ran E85 in my STi, this was a normal reaction in temperatures like that. I would have to assume thats normal.

It's all in the tune. I'm still working with John to get my e85 tune from him working properly (which i'm confident that he will.), but i've got an e85 tune from another vendor that after some tweaking was able to start on the second attempt this morning (34f outside, coolant temp of 7c). I'm sure John's tune will be able to offer equal or better cold start performance once it's done being tweaked.

If you're having problems with cold start performance, you'll need to get John a log and submit a support ticket. Cold start logs have a couple extra things you want to take into consideration:

1 - Make sure the car is dead cold. i usually let mine sit 6-8 hours. Coolant temp is what you'll want to look at. i've seen as high as 17c on warmer mornings down to 7c this morning (34f-ish ambient temp.)

2 - Turn your car's ignition to the on mode (without actually attempting to start the motor) and leave it for 15-20 minutes to let the o2 sensor pre-heat so that the log data is useful for John to make adjustments.

3 - Videos can help.

My fuel economy seems to be tanking lately (pumpgas). I was getting about 29.0 before and now I'm at around 24.2-24.8.

I don't think the tune is 100% (or even 1% necessarily) to blame for this but I just want to share and hear experience from other users. Thing is, I put on my winter tires about a 3/4 tank into into my first tank with the tune (filled up the day I tuned) and that's when I saw it go down to about 24.8 but this was also the same time as hurricane sandy when I was making a lot of short trips and not my usual lengthy commute to work.

And about that commute to work...I feel like I'm noticing more traffic lately. Lots of factors to consider here obviously which is why I was hoping to hear from some other users. Preferably with and without winter tires.

Worth mentioning, the map automatically goes to map 1 everytime you turn the car off/on (AFAIK ECUTek is working on fixing it to make it stick with the last map that was running)

@sportsguy, Yea it's somewhat of a pain, but worth it, it runs great on E85 once it's warmed up. I made sure I had it on map 2 everytime I tried to start it. Does anyone know about the fuel filter gunking up? I know no one has run e85 on this engine long enough to determine, but I mean IN GENERAL should I be worried about it? Thanks for all the help guys, I appreciate it!

I'm having cold start issues with my e85 tune also. Yesterday is took 4 tries to start and it was 66 degrees out. I emailed john a datalog and video of it just waiting to hear back. I guess I should fill out a ticket for it too.

no winter tires, but i've had a decrease in mpg since sandy along with my worst mpg tank ever. i've also been experiencing more traffic and different types of trips. i'm wondering if the "93" i got during the gas crunch was really 93. i think lower temps have something to do with it too.

This is a very good thought you got going here...I'm in PA where it never got half as bad as NJ/NY but still a possibility. The lower temps are a definite factor.

edit: Anyone else feel that running to redline on the stock tunes gives you the sense that nuts and bolts are about to fly off your engine in a catastrophic disaster? Stock tune is NOT good for smooth revving but the tune does a very nice job of fixing this. Much more confidence inspiring to actually wind the car out.

I know about the cold start stuff that'll get worked out eventually, but i want to be teased on the goodies before my 2 week cruise soon and for when I purchase it when I return.

Impressions, Gains, all that jive.

Is a fix for the fuel gauge in the works? That's the one annoying thing for me right now- everything else is pretty sexy.
