Yeah, I was going to wait it out. I've bought 1 year releases before so I'm cool with waiting. Based on previous Toyota ownership, they'll add minor details after a couple of years and then a facelift for the 2nd gen.

Daily driver for me.
I have thought maybe I would take it to the track occationally?
But if I did that and crashed it, Insurance would be void.
Maybe when it gets older or when they get cheapper could buy another one for track use.
Just will have to wait and see what happens.

This car will only see time attack and autocross.

bumper to bumper track days and drifting events may be too damaging for me

I want to keep it lookin good and fun.

...then again in the near future my job will pay a good amount of $$$...so i guess bumper to bumper track days are possible. But not right now while i'm in school and NEED to have a car in proper working function

I'm not sure if it's offered in NZ or not, but in the US you can get HPDE insurance for just such an event. Check into it. Tracking these cars should be tons of fun!

By track days do you mean w2w racing or just HPDEs?

HPDEs are no more dangerous than TA, actually you are really pushing yourself in TA to win, so I'd say that TA is MORE dangerous than a DE..

This will replace my current Accent as my DD and Auto-X car. It will also be attending some lapping days.

For a DE in anything besides advanced and instructor run groups there will be strict passing rules. The car being passed will give a point by, the passing car can NOT pass until that is received.

DE's are safe generally from car to car contact. I've seen it a couple of times resulting from people not giving others space and the leading car screwing up, spinning, etc, but that's over a 12 year period.. I've seen far more single car incidents.

DE's are generally very safe, but if you are worried and it's offered for the event you want to run, buy HPDE insurance. If the car's wrecked, you get up to the written value of the policy to repair/replace with zero impact on your personal vehicle insurance.

For a novice you'll have an instructor in the car anyways to help you out with learning how to drive on track, it's VERY rare to see newer guys wreck (if so it's often vehicle prep, crap brake fluid, oem pads, etc), it's the guys with lots of experience that are pushing 10/10ths all the time that usually do...

Thats why I sold my S2000 CR and wanted to get something cheap for track. Spend a lot of time thinking about what I should get (Miata, E36 M3, etc....) but at the end always came back to the FT86. Problem is its almost a year wait and again I would have a brand new car for track

Want something cheap for the track? Get one of these.

Mine will serve as a DD, and occasionally for track days (if I can afford it). Sadly by the time I will be able to buy this car it will probably be in its last year production, so I'm going to probably get this the year production ends, unless there is another car that is the same price and is better (which is probably not going to happen).

It would be a DD and nothing else. There's a lot of nice roads in Georgia in the country parts.
