P.S. I just read that Lotus is producing an automatic transmission optioned Evora. The tranny is the Aisin automatic from the Toyota Camry, which makes sense, I guess, since the Evora's V6 is a Camry engine.
But now I'm thinking: Do anyone want a performance sports car with a tranny sourced from a middle-of-the-road sedan? It just seems weird. |

Who knows! Lotus is so f.-ed up. They get close to making great cars, then make some decisions that are hard to fathom. |

It's the same transmission, but not the same ECU. Lotus will program it for more aggressive shifts and lock up. If you're buying a sports car with a Camry engine and an automatic, it might as well be sourced from the Camry as well. No need to try and get exotic that late in the game.
I want an Evora though. But more than that, I want something similarly great looking, MR, with a relatively simple drivetrain that doesn't cost north of $60k. |

I have no problem with the parts bin aspect of this car. Hell the AE86 shared a lot of parts with the Corolla of its time, right? You are correct, at $19k, Subaru/Toyota have to share parts. There is nothing wrong with that. You need to judge the car as a sum of its parts, not based on each and every component on its own. There were rumors that Toyota was spending a lot of time on the AC unit of this project to get it as light as possible, weren't they? Even more expensive sports cars share chassis, components and designs of "lower" models. No biggie for me. |

I only get annoyed with parts bin cars with the interior/exterior aesthetics. When I buy something I'm considering the chasis, engine, tranny, brakes for their own value, regardless if they are shared with another platform.

If it really comes in at that price, it might be hard to say no.

.Anyway $19k would be a steal for this car as is. Hence why I doubt it is accurate. Probably converted from Yen or something or even didn't get the numbers from Tachimori-san. , really strange to hear this info. Not entirely convinced of it's legitimacy.

Tell me about it. Lately I've been having a huge hankering for a change in scenery. Maybe a permanent one away from this superficial, Hollywood hellhole. I'm in the worst of it, too (Orange County).
