Not sure $2000 is a bargain per say since many here would rather have that money in their pocket/put towards their car. $2000 goes a long way for mods and/or car payments. Now if you have family/friends in Japan that you were planning on visiting anyways, sure why not kill two birds with one stone. But to plan a trip just to visit a car show on the other side of the world seems silly for most. $2000 could be done, but depending where you live in NA tickets will run $1000-1200 to Tokyo. Hotels will probably be $80-90 a night for something very basic. Just depends how long you want to stay and how cheaply you want to enjoy your trip (buying food at grocery store vs. eating out)...etc. |

For sure I am not going there if it is only to the car show. If I go there it will then really be for holidays, as I don't have any this summer, and while I visit Japan, I might then go to the car show. But in the same time for such price I'd rather get Advan rims and tires for the FT-86.

I was planning on going myself, 2K is CHEAP for a week in Japan, just flights that I looked at from TPA where ~1500 plus.. add a week of hotel, expensive food, drinks, side trips, trains tickets, etc.. it's an easy 3k trip I believe. I was working on a buddy pass to fly there cheap, and might be able to do so (flight would be less than $300 then) however the people I know with family in Japan suggested against it because of the remaining large rolling black outs, radiation in dust, water, etc that they are still having a problem with, according to those that are there right now anyways. Not sure how true that is. I think timing and money will be an issue for me, 1500ish for a friends Chicago wedding/vacation trip next week, another wedding to goto in November, two more expensive races this year, etc..

Japan is an immaculately clean country and a fantastic value. There are small shops close to everything that sells delicious food for a very reasonable price. There is no gouging. In all the stations there are a variety of bentos for sale. Eating and drinking on the run is something they have perfected. Japan is bi-lingual. Signs are in japanese and english. Everyone is attentive when asked a question and will seek out someone to help you, not like in the US. It is the most courteous country I have ever visited. I have one complaint. Their coffee sucks. Go to McDonalds or Starbucks, it's the same taste. Japan is the country that makes the car you want. It's a chance for adventure and discovery. The land of the onsen. OOOoooo....the onsen, I need to go....... |

That what I'm saying! It's not like Comic Con where you go to the Convention for 4 days straight!
![]() I was planning to spend at least half a day at the latest to see the new cars, take some pics and just see the FR-S with my own eyes since pics don't really do justice. The rest of the week would consist of clubbing, checking out the shops, take a ninja/samurai class, do sightseeing and maybe trying some ikizukuri! [u2b]dzj95jHuPiw[/u2b]

Ichi, the Japanese cultural traditions are hilarious! It's funny how drinking alcohol with tiny fishes makes you man. ![]() ![]() All this talk about Japan makes me really want to go even more! One of my friends works for the US Navy under contract and goes to Japan for about 2 months and only spends about 2 weeks here in SoCal before heading back. He loved it at first but now he's sick of Japan. I've emailed him asking if he'll be there in Dec so he can show me what's good over there.

Yes, gotta agree some of Japanese traditions are hilarious & ridiculous, but some are awesome. My mother's side of family don't have those kid to adult traditions, other than go to one of the temple & get blessing (nothing extreme) The fishes I drank was way smaller than that |
