Continental Extreme Winter contact vs Blizzak w70

Winters coming up. Cant decide between the two! Or throw in another contender if you think its better. The continental was rated the best, blizzak the second.

Lets hear it :]

I went with continentals. Mostly because of the reviews and they cost me less than half of blizzacks

I went Conti ExtremeWinterContact this year based on the TireRack test results. I ran the Blizzak WS70 for two seasons on my old Scion tC and they were great. Worth the money for sure, just going to try something new this year.

I've been driving on the Conti's for about 2 weeks now in the dry and they are nice tires. Quiet, smooth, and don't tend to wander like other deep snow tires do. But without any snow on the ground, it's hard to give a strong review just yet. So far so good though.

For what it's worth, Consumer reports rates the Blizzaks better than the Contis, quite a bit better actually, gets confusing with such a big difference between reviewers.

I had the Blizzaks on a Miata and the Contis on a Prius, now it's hard to compare given such different cars, but I decided on the Contis for the FR-S, 205-50-17 on stock rims, going to have them mounted up next week.

General Altimax Arctic

I'd go in this direction, I just order a set. Great reviews and they score in every category.

I run Blizzaks on my car and extreme winter contacts on my wife's car. Both are great, I would just go with whatever you can get the best deal on.

This is a studdable tire and not directly comaprable to the other tires being compared in this thread.

I used studded winter tires for years, and frankly modern studless snows are just plain better, snow and ice performance is just as good, and dry and wet road performance is far better, plus you get away from the incredibly irritating noise the studs make.

These are only good for deep snow.
They loose in european tests _WITH STUDS_ to good studless tires.

You get what you pay for.

If you can run them with studs - it could be an okay option. W/o studs - waste of money.

+1. I mounted these on the other car, which is only driven 10 miles a week and used when the snow is too deep for the FRS.

You can't go wrong with either tire. The only downside of the Blizzaks is that they wear out fast.
