I think that it is a goal. Again... my post said to Imagine if they met the that 3.4 errors in 1 million "products" produced. That means that things would operate at a much higher efficiency.

Higher "production" is useless without the correct quality being there.
True that you can translate the term "products" into "cases" or "number of services" for any quantifiable numbers and then apply the quality metric of six sigma.

However, in order to reach the Six Sigma quality metric, what kind of extra verification is required for each individual case in order to attain this success? That is where I am coming from. It is nice to set the goal of Six Sigma, but how are you going to achieve this without costs or resources? This requires time/money/resource/people buy-in/etc and the most important question is: is your government willing to do that?

It's not simply a 3.4 errors per million thing. It's how to approach it that is important. Or else it'd be pretty easy to get a green belt for six sigma. :P
True, Six Sigma is not about the numbers, it is about how to improve the process to get to that number. But, one thing that is not mentioned here is whether the government is willing to make this change, or is there any driving force to get them moving to improve themselves.

I think the government officials should know the management tricks and techniques of how to improve their internal process. However, they really need first to understand where they stand in terms of error rate, find the root-cause of the problem, and then propose improvement plan and see if they can get the funding to carry out such a plan. Then execute it and analyze the result to realize the saving.

PS: Let put this into perspective. In 2008 the payout of Old-Age and Survivors Insurance and Federal Disability Insurance fund was 615.3 Billion (page 5 of the report: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/TR/2009/tr09.pdf). With 3.4 / 1 million error rate, that is $2,092,020 error that is allowed for six sigma. In one of your article (not there anymore from CNN), there seems to be a saying of $180,000 of wrong payment. That number is one magnitude below than the tolerance. Would you then say the SSA is actually operating within Six Sigma of their process so nothing needs to be done?

FIRST LENS TO BUY!!!

50mm f/1.8.

You can get them for DIRT CHEAP now because they are old, and they produce excellent low aperture photos! If you want to impress the common man, then it's all about that BOKEH!

A prime lens is an excellent lens to have in addition to the 18-55 kit lens, because you can do pretty much everything with those lenses.

For car photography, they're perfect. And even for film! I have been using the 18-55 and the 50mm pretty much exclusively in my films and never had an issue. Rarely do the bigger zoom lenses come into play in a film.
Link to said lens? I'd love to get something in that low of an aperture and I think at 50mm, I can make some nice shots with it!

I bought mine used for about $40 IIRC. So, I would check Craigslist or something first.

Cheapest Used on Amazon is $93, which isn't far off from new price...

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007E7JU/sr=1-1/qid=1352405833/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1352405833 &seller=&sr=1-1"]Amazon.com: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens: Camera & Photo[/ame]

$100 Still isn't bad for the quality of pics it takes. But I would check locally or maybe even eBay first.

@ichitaka05, @Giccin and @Guff have the right idea. The camera body isn't entirely important (T2i, T3i both are good enough), but finding the right lens and investing as much time on technique is what will push you further in the right direction.
I know this because that's all I've been doing with my cameras and group of lenses. Someday I'll invest in a new high performance professional camera, but I'm not going to rush myself into that yet.

Also I recommend cyber Monday, I've had luck with that in the past.

Random thought: so my car's suspension has developed a major case of the squeaks due to the recent cold weather.

would a silcon lube spray dry out my seals or is it safe to use?

I can't for the life of me figure out why, but for whatever reason I have an incredibly strong urge to listen to Centerfold by The J. Geils Band while driving my FR-S.
