Hard to compare a boosted motors' reliability to a high-revving N/A motor though. I'm assuming you won't see cracked ringlands like with the STI =)

Plus, Yamaha is working on this engine, and it's integrating D4-S tech. So it's not strictly a Suby engine.

You are making me very happy. I want to be wrong about this. :happy0180:

BTW, is it hard to work on those boxer engines? A lot of my Porsche friends have to drop the engine just to do a spark plug change out.

You may be right. I may be reading too much into things.
My friend, you're reading only a part of it. They (they as Toyota & Subaru) have stated several other stuff about this engine

From NYIAS
Quote:
The FR-S’ naturally-aspirated engine is innovative, being the first boxer to incorporate Toyota’s D4-S injection system, which utilizes both direct and port injection, resulting in increased horsepower and torque throughout the entire powerband, without sacrificing MPG.
-Geneva-
Quote:
The Subaru Boxer engine can be constructed of aluminium owing to its compact and rigid engine design, making for a much lighter power unit.
Quote:
Since the piston's opposing movements inherently counteract each other, no balance shaft is needed. This cancels out excess vibrations and gives the engine a sprightly, sporty feel at virtually any engine speed. Needless to say, the Subaru Boxer engine has certain underlying characteristics that make it suitable for such sporty driving.
Quote:
In the BOXER Sports Car Architecture, Subaru's Boxer engine, which originally features a low centre of gravity and optimum weight balance, is even lowered and set back further towards the centre of the chassis. This feature also offers a low-profile sports car silhouette with its lowered engine hood design, resulting in a lowered driving position. All these elements deliver excellent driveability, stability as well as handling performance.
Again, Subaru's boxer engine is better explained by Subaru staff more than Toyota. Again, Toyota is new to this boxer engine this. They don't know much.

So, why are they talking about engine swaps on that video?

TK was jokin about those tuning shops that came to 86 festival don't know anything about boxer engine. They're all Toyota engine mania (specially 4A engines) and never worked on other company's engine before, so they prefer to swap Toyota engine they know inside-out and worked their whole life on than learning new Subaru boxer engine.

That's why everyone was laughing when TK said that statement

A guy i met through my bro-in-law went to work in japan, came back with a wife. Soon after she divorced when she got her citizenship...I said "Wait, what?! Are you sure she was japanese? That's not very honorable!"

I have my whole trip planned out, capped (After taking a few bullet train rides through the country, hell yeah) by renting an AE86 through www.carland86.com and driving it to the expected places: Ebisu, Fuji, Suzuka, then on to Osaka to check out the Shinto shrines and gardens. Trip would be in spring, so I could catch the Sakura blossoms. Maybe find out where Tsuchiya-san lives so I can Wayne's World him for about an 1 or 2 before he calls the cop to arrest some crazy, scary, possibly dangerous Gai-jin.

le ssiiggghhhhhhhh
