Let the insurance company take care of the legalities. If you weren't cited for anything then it will be treated as no-fault and shouldn't affect your premium.

Trust me, insurance companies are ballstastic at suing if they decide it necessary, and will not hesitate to do so if the claim looks suspect. This is actually a minor issue and your carrier will not care one iota about the claim.

You pay a premium specifically to avoid having to worry about these matters, let the carriers deal with the dirty work and just try to get your poor car back in order.

She lied to the cop and said I didn't know where I was going and swerved to hit her! By the way my car has been hit, it's pretty obvious that she hit me...but anyways, I have full coverage, but how much would the door cost? for the passenger side?
I can check for you. I work at a body shop and have it in my system. You just want a new door itself, right? Not the skin, etc?

New door- 589.11

Speaking as a guy who spent 25 years handling automobile insurance claims and retired as a claims manager I can tell you

Man, thats sad to hear. The door skin isn't offered by toyota yet. I had to get the whole door when my car was hit. To color match the door to the rest of the car is what took another toll. All the seals and even my rear quarterpanel window was removed to color match my whole car. All new seals and such were replaced.

I HATE people like her. Something very similar happened to my Corolla. A lady rear-ended me on a fwy offramp and went on to claim that I backed up into her. Now I never drive my FR-S without some sort of camera running on the dash. It can't capture everything, but I'm hoping it'll help prevent this sort of BS from happening in the future.

(btw, I use a Sony Action Cam)

Also unbelievable that people would try to lie their way out of something like that, especially an older woman. You would expect they would know better at that age.
its mostly the older people that lie because they usually have experience in these situations. the first timers are usually the ones that try to tell the truth but lose in the end. also... its always old ladys crashing everything lmao

You are going to be old before you know it. We will see how you feel about it then. A lot of young people should not be allowed to drive either. Only middle-aged people like me should be allowed to drive.

@ OP sorry about your bad luck and falling prey to a liar.

Haha cynical but probably true. Makes me wonder why I bother playing by the rules sometimes...

What a terrible sight to see! That's why I run a cheap dashcam. It doesn't lie and I have a better chance of proving my side of the story. I agree with the older people lying comment. They have been around the block and know how it works... sure it's evil but sadly nobody is really going to doubt the 'poor old lady'.

If there were even a shred of truth to that statement, the world wouldn't be filled with assholes as it is.

OP's best chance is to make his insurance company dig deeper...insist they try harder to make her tell the truth.

I just had my passenger door replaced for the very same reason. An old guy backed into me in a parking lot because he didn't see me, even though I had been sitting behind him for a good 10 seconds before he backed out -__-
The total was about $1300 for the door, paint, and paint blend on the fenders.
