There are plenty of people making good power with the TRD S/C on the Tacoma. I have one and felt a huge jump in just daily driving.after the pulley swap it was even better

TRD SC will put out more than 20hp. That's rediculous. HKS was conservative with their kit and made 230 initially. Expect closer to 250 at release.

Might be a good idea to actually see what it does before saying it won't make crap

honestly i reckon we will see like 20-30 hp too from the trd SC.. it will be up to you to put a bigger pulley on it though
![]() look at all the past TRD SC .. look at their gains,. |

HKS is a tuning company so I don't see the relevance. I guess we'll find out who is ridiculous when it's announced. As Surok says, using a smaller pulley+tune will sacrifice warranties for higher power but obviously will be abundantly available to anyone that wants to.

The relevance being HKS has always been conservative with their Rotrex style superchargers; And they are not using both injection methods due to tuning/ fuel delivery choice. Yet, HKS still increased output by approx. 60hp at the wheels.
TRD is not limited in this regard. 20hp increase is, in my opinion, a ridiculous estimate. As someone else pointed out already, header back + tune will net you that and then some.

I'm sticking with my original estimate - 20-30hp increase for about $3-5k. Far lower than everyone's expectations, but easy for Toyota to warranty without worrying about various supporting components failing. Last edited by brewksy; 11-05-2012 at 10:48 AM. |

the only good trd supercharger i have experienced is the one for the tacoma..holy crap is it awesome..and the numbers they make the 5.7L for the tundra is just obnoxious.
i hope this one really performs and makes it worth our while.

So, it stands to reason (and I am just guessing LIKE EVERYONE ELSE here) that 250 at the crank is a complete possibility. And because that this car is a "Step up" from the tC would make me think that it would be between $5-6k. Thats my guess, and I am sticking to it. |

I'm a bit new to SCs as zi came from turbo, and zi know the pulley has a lot of control over the output. But if the TRD unit came out putting down 30hp, could an aftermarket tune get more out of the setup?

In my experience with S/Cs, a tune isn't usually the first thing you do. Most times a smaller pulley will do the trick with minimum work. And the ECUs can handle it easily.
