At this point I don't know what to believe from them.

I would love an independent body to analyze a car that's thrown a CEL, tear the motor down, go over the software line by line and then make a judgment as to why these events are happening.

I wonder if even they could figure this out.

NASA literally was unable to figure out their code fubars before- I dont have much faith in getting a real answer on this one. Just let them fix it and move on.

They claim my ECU had an open circuit. A hardware problem in the ECU.

Could this be cause by software? of course. Ive seen similar problem in calibration for things like ignition dwell causing ECU driver or ignition coil failures. They replaced a few ignition coils on my HEMI Magnum before a re-flash came out that cured the problem - everyone was blaming the coils when in fact they were being over driven.

I had the reflash only, and it seems a tad less powerful than before.
We had a dyno of 1 with a new ecu, mine with cams/valves and then a flash.
My dyno was run against a frs with no issues bone stock

So we need one that has only had the flash

My 99 gen 7 celica does the same thing.
Here in aus there is a 13 month wait for brz , so it will be a while to see if there are problems.
Mine will be built in Munmo Japan.
Are the usa ones built in the usa?

No...none are built in the US. My understanding is that all BRZs/FRSs come from the same factory in Japan.

Fucking. Lit up. My dash. AGAIN.

Beyond words right now.

Edit: but, as an engineer, not beyond data. 4,868 on the ODO. So, I got roughly 1,300mi of service between new ECU (811) and CEL/SL again.

Do we have a rough idea on the percentage of affected cars vs sold cars – at least for US?
I’m sensing a stop-sale as likely and even an engine replacement might not be out of the question.

And Subaru, if you’re reading this (and I hope you are!): I am one of those who were very, very close to purchasing a BRZ. Of course, this is not going to happen until the problem gets truly resolved. I hope that Toyota and Subaru realize that a car receiving so much praise and attention in the media, is going to get an equal amount of negative publicity if the engine troubles aren’t immediately and properly addressed.

After all, this car is not about numbers sold, it is about prestige.
Good luck everyone.

I completely fixed my CEL and idle dip problems!
:happy0180:

I traded the car back to the dealership for a 2012 4Runner Trail Edition. The 4Runner is a boat compared to the FR-S and while I'm sure I'll miss the sportiness, I WILL NOT miss the problems I had with the FR-S.

Oddly enough, I was on my way to test drive a Focus ST and a Camaro just to fill in some blanks in my head.

I was lucky to get out of my FR-S and get the deal I got. My dealership is even giving me a free 2 way remote start installed. Now all I need to do is get some new tires on the truck and some weathertech floor mats!

I figure I was probably getting close to the CEL coming back on the FR-S.

Good luck everyone with their cars, I hope you can get them fixed and enjoy them without the headache some of us have gone through.

Keep right on waiting brother, you don't want to buy this car, this is not the car you're looking for.

Finally got my car in to have the SOA tech reflash the ECU. Was there 10 minutes when the service writer came ans said I need a new ECU. Here's the big surprise, the part will be there in the morning. They said the tech wanted to keep the car so they sent me home in an Outback loaner.

Will update when I get the car back including trying to get a pic od the new ECU. Now that the problem has reoccurred for soconfused I'm worried that this wont be the final fix.
