I'll take a trunk for ease of replacement if I want to swap it out for a carbon fiber unit.

Hatch looks better and is better. Of course I mean that in the liftback style of the Celicas and Supras, not in the wagon style of a Matrix or xB. Besides, it's such a Toyota signature. Too bad we'll be getting a trunk.

I hope both versions are hatches w/ either 60/40 or 50/50 rear split!

Jack Hollis promised that we can fit 4 wheels in this car for track day. I would go for a hatch over a trunk any given day (even though it is set for trunk from the current concepts (mk I to FR-S)).

The space in this tC looks very spacious to fit all the gears for tracks.

All else being equal - Subaru with a trunk. I like Subaru's logo more and the trunk would probably end up lighter.

I would personally love for either version to have a liftback style hatchback ala the Supra and Celica. I'd much rather have a actual trunk over a traditional hatchback (Civic, Mini, etc.) though.

However, judging from the pictures, I think everyone is right in assuming the Scion is going to get a traditional trunk.

Another guy saying a coupe with a trunk is lighter than a HB!

It can but that doesn't mean it should.

Eg. the Civic HB from the 90's. It was lighter, shorter, and had less overhang. Granted it had a wagon HB too but it was even more aerodynamic (0.32 vs 0.34).

The Celica liftback was only 20lbs heavier than the coupe, right?

@ OP, Why did you make it another Toyota vs Subaru poll? Please make it hatch vs trunk!

I mean, if they could make the liftback without sacrificing lightness and rigidity, put me down for one, they're more useful than a Camaroesque trunk for sure. I'm just going with my gut here.

I dunno how much of a difference it would make if the FT-86 became a hatch. It just looks like you can hinge the glass to the trunk area and make it a hatch no problem. (kinda like the integra)

Unless there's more behind it that I'm unaware about.

I think I would prefer a Hatch so I could fit more in.
But I dont mind a boot lid.
I would prefer Subaru verson... saying that Im just as happy to have the Toyota verson. Just depends whats offered on each verson that satifys my needs.

Rather have a hatch but would take trunk.

Also rather have a shooting break version of the 86 with a hatch to go alongside the 86 coupe with a trunk. WIN WIN

I've been spoiled by the utility of my liftback so I'm going with hatch; Toyota or Subaru.
