DIY - Alternate Hood Prop

I don't think everyone knows of this trick. It definitely helped me install the strut tower brace. Here's a quick write up on how to prop the hood higher for more working room in the rear of the engine bay.

i heard they did this because a there were a fair number of comments about limited access of a engine crane to the boxers in a typical subaru engine-bay. but that's juts passing on something i once read. lol
but yeah, sounds like an awesome easy as bonus feature.
it's the little things that count...

Should have mentioned it in the OP; you need to reverse the steps to place the prop back in the original location.

Subaru has been doing this for quite a while, since 93 from what I have seen. Just be careful about lifting the car in your garage with it all the way up. I have bent a hood by doing this and not paying attention. You only have to do it once to learn.

Too bad the secondary hole does not have some sort of plastic insert. I'd be concerned of scratching the paint within the hole and having future rust issues.

lol, I told my friend the prop did this, but he didn't give me a chance to look it up. Broke the plastic cap that goes into the hood! lol...

Lucky I work at a shop and I just ordered a new one. $22 plus list price. I get a 30% discount.... gonna write it off as shop expense though.

This thread is an example of how awesome this forum is.

I had been Googling for a way to secure the hood prop in the second location with no clear results. Even the manual doesn't clearly explain how to take out the hood prop, it just points out where the secondary location is.

Great job and mad props.
