Black Door Accents?

Hey all, I was looking at the winning design of thew Stillen bodykit contest, and I fell in love with the black door accents.

Here:

Oilers99 did a similar one on his car in Plastidip, which was very nice: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ight=plastidip

But I'm looking for a more permanent application. I'm thinking of making the door accents matte black, so I'm thinking vinyl may be a good choice? But I've contacted a few shops around my area and they all quote around $250 to do it. Now I really love the door accents, but $250 sounds a little steep for two stripes along my car doors.

Do you guys think these prices are normal for this amount of vinyl, or are they just ripping me off? Do you guys know of any alternatives that look similar but are cheaper? Or are there any alternatives that are DIY, but are more durable than Plastidip?

Thanks all!

I don't have any experience paying a pro-shop to do this work for me, but I would think that $250 ($125 per) is pretty reasonable for a custom cut job like this. To get it exactly right will take a heck of a lot of skill. Remember part of the cost of anything like this is the experience level of the shop, not just the labor+material.

That said, it is the one thing on this I don't like on red. To me it accentuates the one thing I don't like on the car, the way the fender abruptly ends at the door/pillar and does not blend well with the lines. To me, the window should have been higher so it flows from the fender along the door and up the back.

I really want to get this done. Anyone know any GOOD shops in Santa Rosa, CA or anywhere in the bay area that can do this?

I think this + blacked out headlights and a small black pedestal spoiler would look awesome.

That's actually my final plan LOL.

I might also lower my ride and paint the stock wheels matte black. But winter's coming, so that'll probably be later.

This should be fairly easy to accomplish. Need to find a company that does wraps and vinyl and has the computer/plotter to cut out designs. Then have them make a template and they can mass produce these as a kit for cheap. Install of this would be relatively simple and could be done in any color to compliment the car.

I was thinking it would be easy too, and it's a relatively small area to wrap. That's why I was surprised that I got quoted $250 by the shops in my area. Unless I'm grossly underestimating their cost of business.

In that case they're probably doing it by hand. They're going to make a template and test fit it for each side. Then they'll actually cut it out in vinyl and apply. That's a couple hours of work and about $10 of material. Personally I'd expect it to be about $150.

Mass produced as a kit, I'd expect it to be $50-$75

$150 is definitely a price I would consider. $250 for two stripes is just too much for my wallet.

I'll probably wait until SEMA is over. Maybe someone will come out with a mass-produced vinyl section for it.
