I would never choose a mx5 over the cars listed especially the Z and GC R-Spec 3.8. I don't care for the muscle cars or the miata. I hate its feminine, canoe-like looks and the engine looks like it has the same output of my rsx sans about 250 lbs.

Other than the great handling and lightness the MX5 provides what is the big deal with it? If I'm going to spend that kind of money I want more style, power, torque, and a little practicality even if it means more weight. I don't see how it can be seen as a steal of a car.

Still looks like a canoe with a cartoon smiley face. IMO the biggest problem with the car.

Yup.
And it's a convertible. The RX-8 starts around $26k and besides being faster than the Miata, it has back seats, but it gets worse MPG than a v8. The new ones should be more reliable with it reaching the end of it's lifecycle but I digress. If the Scion FR-S starts under $20k with it's compact backseats and 200PS. It'll be the only car in the price bracket with RWD and 200PS. And it's being touted as a fun beginner's driving car. ![]() How many cars can you buy new with $20k that have almost 200BHP? |

![]() One of the best selling points for the Miata aside form what's already been mentioned is its low consumable cost. Sticky tires and brake pads are much cheaper and really accentuate the Miata's best qualities. |

$2k over a tC. MAX!
What are the cost differences between a FWD transaxle and a RWD transmission, drive-shaft and rear diff? About $2k to the manufacturer? tC shares parts with the Camry, the FT86 with the Subaru version plus, likely the future WRX/STI ,and maybe some Legacy/Impreza bits. It is NOT low volume. It will only be low-volume if they over-price it. If they are serious about re-invigorating the performance image, there should be no 'fanboi' or 'racer' tax on this car. Manufacturing-wise there is no reason for it to be expensive. And don't justify extra cost in development, just because we see vids of it on the 'Ring. The Camry probably goes through even MORE extensive testing to make sure it is a silent, economical, marshmallow...
