Good to know, I do wonder how a proper 4-2-1 setup will perform. I'd like to see 15whp solid gains, but perhaps that is asking too much?

Replacing the second cat with a high flow number seems to be the main gain. A well designed 4-2-1 header with no primary cat and a simple 2.5" free flowing system with that HF cat should be good for 15whp I would have thought?

I dunno a 7.5% bump in HP on a NA engine is quite a bit for just exhaust. Especially on such a small displacement motor.

It is but they've had 8-10hp at the wheels gain with a high flow cat and axle back from memory, so another 5-7hp from a well designed set of balanced extractors sounds reasonable?

How would the displacement have any bearing on the % gain?

I think a larger displacement engine or a turbocharged engine is more likely to be hampered by a restrictive exhaust system. I know you can make pretty good power on turbo and V8 cars with nothing more than exhaust mods.

Plus the factory setup on the FRS is not that small, restrictive or poorly designed.

Ahhh! A large or turbo charged engine with a crap exhaust will get better gains from a decent exhaust than a smaller one with a good exhaust.
I agree.

I agree.
Sometimes things you say make so much sense to you and not to others.

Only pulling your leg.
I agree with what you say. The system on the 86 is very good for OEM and if they hadn't restricted it with that second cat and fitted that crappy mangled over pipe, we wouldn't have had much excuse to change it.
Maybe they did it on purpose so we could change it and get some volume?
