Some of these guys are forgetting that this a SCION, a company that makes affordable cars. I can see this being 27k if it was under the Toyota badge which is one of the main reasons they're probably making it a Scion because they need to help the Scion badge and because they know this way it can be affordable and be a hit. If sold for 27k they would just be digging a deeper hole for the company. Here in Dallas there are a lot of people buying the new tC and I personally like it compared to the previous. It's a better car overall than what it was but did they jack up the price? Fact is there is nothing that could make this car 6 or 7 grand more than the tC even if they put TRD everything on it.

Its going to more expensive than a TC obviously, it really depends on what toyota is paying for and what subaru is paying for. If Subaru is paying for what is hard to do on Toyota's end and vice vera with both companies will being taking the load that is easiest for them to do and most likely the cheapest. Chances are prices wont go above 24k because they will start to drive away people with too high of a price tag. Everyone is going to want a lower price tag but i don't believe it will eat every last cent we have

The see thru Subaru FT86 shows its fitted with a FB engine.
If they are basically the same car, why would Toyota go and use a EJ based unit. I would still think they would want to share the same basic engine.. even if its fully recast by Toyota with Yamaha heads and D4S.

To me it just seems odd to spend alot of money, time and Devlopment on the new FB engine. Then just to go back and redesign/recast the EJ for use in the FT.

He said the shape was like that of an EJ design, with EJ mounting points. I'm almost certain the FB engine also mounts up based on the USDM Subaru Forester running a FB25 (X models) and EJ255 (XT model) on most likely the same mounts. I've underlined those words for a reason. Just because it's the shape of the EJ does not mean that we can conclude in full that it is one. It is however very possible that the engine is similar to the EJ block or based off of it (Moto-P went on to state that Toyota/Yamaha have made altercations to the block). It's possible that Subaru simply put the FB in the concept just so they would have an engine to showcase. The reason why Toyota would use a EJ based engine is because it's a better starting point for a 100hp/l naturally aspirated engine then the FB is (I have multiple posts covering this topic). It's entirely possible that Toyota and Subaru are working quite independently on their respective engines at this moment, so it's not safe to assume that the engines will be closely related, if at all. |

rL-gT is from Canada, though. That would make sense for the difference in price, I think.

They're not 'facts' from either side unless they're quoted from someone within Toyota/Subaru who is actually working on this project as an official statement. Otherwise its speculation.
Sides, deep inside Toyota? From where? Marketing department? Accounting? Parts? Engineering? Manufacturing? Administration? Front Desk? Sanitation Engineering Specialist 2? Pizza Delivery Driver for 5 pizza's every wednesday afternoon for the jokers on the 7th floor? "I got this friend in Accounting, says its gonna be the next Supra!" etc. |
