ECUTek.

Any reason you guys are going with MAF vs Speed Density with ECUtek's racerom?

have you ever seen a dogbone mount on an ej engine? the engine moves more than radially.

Getting back to the larger MAF housing topic, ECUTek should be able to recalibrate the MAF sensor to read accurately. This is something that should really be done anytime you change your intake at all. In theory whatever is before or after the MAF shouldn't matter because it's a calibrated instrument with a specific opening size to read airflow. However, in the real world a MAF isn't a perfect instrument and variations upstream or downstream can affect its accuracy. See the Injen intake for an example of this. With this intake the MAF readings are off and this makes the engine run leaner.

When the engine revs it moves counter clockwise, pulling the intake tubing away from the supercharger.

EJ blocks are typically mated to AWD transmissions, which internally house the frond diff. As the case tries to twist the front axles, it creates the fore/aft torsional load you are referring to. RWD platforms (such as the 86) don't have front axles. It may twist fore/aft very very slightly from some off-center loading from the propeller shaft relative to the engine mounts, but it will be minimal, especially considering the FA engine mounts so low, it is more inline with the shaft.

To clarify, looking into the engine bay standing at the front of the car, the engine internals spin clockwise, which in turn they try to spin the block counterclockwise, this is the movement you see. So when you rev, the block rolls toward the passenger side slightly.

If the engine block wants to move toward the passenger side under acceleration, I wonder how much movement there is under high RPM deceleration (or jerky/sloppy downshifts)?

Curious, During correct down shifts there is very little movement. I'm curious on how the pulley for the supercharger is rigged... For their system to work out would have to be two pieces, supercharger mounted to the air box, and pulley on a swinging arm to compensate for engine movement so the air box doesn't get wiggled off the supercharger

From what I understand so far, the compressor and pulley is mounted to the engine like normal, but the short connection to the airbox is a flexible tube of sorts, (I imagine something similar to a flattened accordion) designed to allow lateral movement. The pictures don't show this coupling very well. THIS POST at least shows the difference in diameter between the airbox outlet and airbox inlet.

The statement I made regarding botched downshifts (or hard upshifts, possibly) is it would deflect the engine to an extreme. I'm not saying this is an imminent problem, just curious. Either way, stiffer engine mounts would certainly fix it.

What exactly is so mysterious about the Vortech Supercharged Scion FR-S? The power output of course.

Unveiled today at the SEMA Show aftermarket parts expo in Las Vegas, NV, the Vortech kit is certain to be a go-to addition for many FR-S drivers once the original thrill of their light weight, rear-drive sports car wears off.

Vortech hasn’t released any estimated numbers for the kit either and a representative we spoke with at the SEMA Show was hesitant to even guess – though something just shy of 300 hp (a 50% increase from the stock output) seems about right.

Other upgrades on the FR-S include a KW suspension, Borla exhaust, 19-inch Rotiform wheels.

STILL holding out on numbers!?!?!
