Subaru makes inefficient heads and their boxer engines have never made tons of HP. They're designed for mid range power, and they're quite good at that. They aren't however high revving screamers. The 2.5L H4 in my 2.5RS makes about 160 at the crank, max Tq is @ 4K RPMS. Redline is at 6250.

Kinda irrelevant since
1- Subaru already makes a 197ps 2.0 NA boxer.
2- Toyota are designing the heads

Ever heard of what's called "different states of tune"? That same 2.5 Turbo 4 makes over 300hp in the Sti, and the Spec C (JDM/EDM) will do about 306hp with 2.0L.

Will The Toyobaru have more than 180-230ps? Not likely, we can't loose track of the fact that this is a low 20k car. Is it possible? Sure. Remember the S2000 cost over $30k.

The Subaru version will be about $30,000. That is the one with the 250 hp motor. Your other point about the 2.5 making 306hp is irrelevant since that is FI. We all know that you can increase power by increasing boost. The Evo fq-400 makes 400 hp form a 2.0 but it has a giant turbo.

Until I hear it from a Subaru official, I'm not believing a word of this.

Totally agree. Not buying a word of it.

If you would follow the context of the post, it is totally relevant.

all i care about is that the Toyota version looks like the FT86, has in the neighborhood of 200hp, rwd only, and less than 2800lbs. and hopefully $23,000 or less.

Ah, I hear ya there. Can't go wrong with having no car payment or having to come up with 9K+ for something when you're current car is paid off.

I have never driven a RWD car in the winter so I was just wondering is it really that hard to drive during that time (I live near Toronto). Since the subie may have AWD, I am still considering the subie.

It all depends on 3 things:
1 - How much snow you get in your area
2 - Can you fork out for Snow Tires
3 - How well can you drive

I think those are main 3 things are important (well to me anyways). Yeah, some places don't need snow tires. Maybe all season will do, but some places snow few dozen time a month, then snow tires are something to consider. Also driving skill become important too. Throttle & steering control become more hectic and learn to control em smoothly.

example, my friend own S2k (ap1) and he doesn't like to drive his S2k in the winter. Specially when it snows. He said that wheels just spin and it doesn't go anywhere... so he have beater civic, he drive in the winter.

While my other friend that own G35 (sedan) has 3 different tires (Summer, all season & snow) don't have any problem driving anywhere. She said that wheel spin here and there, but haven't spin out.

I'm pretty sure there's pro & con on FR car in snow/winter, but my opinion, if your area snow more than 5" or more and wanna be safe, then awd is something to think bout. I'm keepin' mine RS for winter and FT for summer.

Thanks. I am definitely going to buy winter tires if I purchase the Toyota. Regarding the snow, we usually get a fair amount of snow here. Probably around 5 inches, give or take a few but I can't say for every location around Toronto but the roads are usually plowed fairly quickly.

Dam choosing either a subie or toyota will be a hard decision for me

We don't really get a whole lot of snow down here in Tennessee (big surprise, I know!) but we actually go get a lot of freezing rain and iced roads. Quite frequently during the winter actually.

More annoying than snow. At least in snow you get some traction, but on ice...blegh.

IDK, it all depends, I think. I agree that ice road suck... at the same time, some snow compound cause it to hydroplane... & I'm pretty sure my friend who use to own STI can tell you all bout it (crashed his STI).

Either way both sucks.
