Glad to hear that it most likely will look a little different from the latest mule. I don't care to much for the bland deviation from the ft and the fr (Yeah i realize they use padding to disguise and all).

I'm a little dissapointed if they don't have a special release version, simply from the fact that this will be the first car I'll buy new, my CTS is used and all i did was rims and HID's. I'm not a tooler by any means so I probably will end up paying an arm and a leg for the body kit and add-ons at the dealer. Was hoping for something unique right out the gates.

Is grey or black body color with bright orange rims too gaudy? I'm thinking in terms of how the gt3rs has the grey and red styling. But I realize im talking about tricking out a scion, and I'm 21, is that too old to be caught with something like that?

Yes.

J/K. It's your money and your car. All I'd say is that doing something like that has its downsides. You attract more cops, more people try to race you, and if you're inclined to be easily goaded by revving at redlights, it may not be a good idea. Also, consider that since this will be your first new car, you would probably hold onto it longer than most others. That would mean that your taste in the "accessorizing" may change as you age. If that's the case, it would be wise not to change the car irreversibly.

Really the release series is not much more than a $3000 appearance package so I wouldn't be too bummed. If anything you can sit tight until it comes out.

I personally think orange rims would be hideous, but to each his own. There are certain things that may be ugly, but if done right could look pretty badass. The orange rims alone probably wouldn't cut it.

As far as the age thing, I'm almost 30 and will probably be going from a 350Z to this car. I don't put too much weight into the Scion thing. I'll give the scion and subie both a fair shake (along with the other cars I'm looking at) before I make my decision, but I'm not too worried about others thinking the car is too young. If it offers what I want for what I'm willing to pay, so be it.

I've never been a racer, never owned a fast car, but I don't want to be some random guy dying in a street race. So if someone revved at a stop light id look like a b*tch. I just see exotic cars pull off the colored rims, wondered how it'd look on the fr. But I do see what you mean by keeping it longer and tastes changing.

Its weird because I want the looks of a race car without having to race it. I want an aero kit, because I find cars lacking without them (I.e. Camaro, mustang, etc). Im hoping they offer one at production. Ive always wanted a turbo simply for the spooling and the blow off noise, yeah im weird. Most of all im at a point in my life where I want a warranty that will last me long enough to save for a house, so ill buy an extended.

I was set on the veloster until I saw the FR. Friends ragged on me because id be going from a CTS to a Hyundai. Showed them the fr/ft concept and they agreed much better.

lmao, you guys are killing me. When I mean aero kit I just mean a lip kit almost, not a full on wide body transformation. Truthfully, I might like racing more if I learned how to drive a stick. Part of me is hoping for a dct with paddle shifters -_-

Learn stick now... find a friend (maybe one you dont like) or a rental with a stick and learn. A used car salesman taught me the basics in about 15 minutes in a Kia he was trying to sell me. Where are you in FL? Hell I'll teach ya if you find a car.

I would give you a hard time, but the others seem to be doing a good job of it so I will answer some of your questions.

1) yes they will offer lip kits either from the start or very soon, as they do that for all scion models (spoilers too I guess ). I would recommend you wait for the 5axis lip kit (they always make one) and other aftermarket ones to come out, but that's up to you.

2) learn to drive a stick now. Trust me, you wouldn't want to be learning on your first new car...

3) Sorry to break it to you, but the paddle shifters will be a gimic to sell it exactly to those people the others grouped you up with above. It won't be be an automanual, but an automatic with shifting capabilities. Sure it might fool someone into thinking it looks race-like, but that's all it would do. Not to mention that according to rumors it will be slower as well. Sorry, I said I won't do it, but I felt like you should know

4) You don't have to go to a full blown track to race. There are alternatives, like autocross and such that are easier on your pocket.

I live in Palm Harbor, work in Clearwater and I go to USF St Pete.


My friends have offered before to teach me but I never had a reason to learn until the FR. My only concern with driving a manual is not being able to call, text, shift, clutch at the same time. Not that that's safe but we all do it lol. Though, I do think I would hate myself if I bought a sports car in automatic. I guess then the FR would be a grand cheaper in manual. Ill probably try in my friends civic.

Yeah I figured it probably wouldn't have some gtr transmission in it. Ill just learn Sunday maybe and save me the emberassment. Im not one for spoilers, I actually like what bye and infinity do with the trunks now.
I just can't wait long to get the car once it is out, my CTS is costing me 2k+ a year to keep running and I think the transmission is next.
