We don't know anything about the price of the car and yet we are talking about it. We don't know anything about the colors being offered and yet we are talking about it. We have very few details about the engine and yet we are talking about it. We don't know exactly what the production version will look like outside or inside (just a few spy shots) and yet we are talking about it. We don't know anything about how it will handle, and yet we are talking about it. We talk about this car because we are passionate about it and like it. |

Well, what we think we know based on various tidbits is N/A 2.0 boxer... people plotting swaps are basing it on that information but I'm not sure anyone has an EJ25 mounted on a stand yet for rebuild.
And while it's generally against my religion to agree with PAIT, I think he was pointing out that you run the risk of some major modifications voiding your warranty anyway, so why not go full out and swap as you please. Again, its just banter. If you prefer not to hear it, check back in around December once we have some numbers.

I'm a Warranty Claims Coding Specialist for BMW. I know AAALLLLL about warranty, I've been doing it for a while now.
The reason I got excited about the EJ257 swap is because of the sheer fact that it's possible and supposedly not going to require much fab. Sure the EJ that's in it is mounted crazy low in the car so that might bring up some issues with the plumbing. Sure the motor that's in it might very well respond incredibly to modification so a swap wouldn't really be necessary. I have the unwanted pleasure of telling people "Sorry, that's not covered." and hearing them complain. If I were to do an engine swap or any type of heavy modification it would be AFTER warranty expires. That would at least give me some time to feel out the car and the heart that's in it. Also if about a year or so in I don't like the heart it came with and feel like doing a transplant I'll buy the EJ257, leave it on a stand and start slow moding it till my warranty runs up, THEN put it in. There's no rush, if I get this car I plan on having it for a while; I've been waiting for it for a while. |

Dude, relax. No one is saying the motor that'll come with it is going to be trash. We're excited about the possibility of putting in a different one without much fab. Hell, someone may do a swap just because they prefer the sound of another motor. This is a straight enthusiasts car, they made that clear when they were talking about sacrificing many of the creature comforts that exist in modern cars to make weight. Based off that alone, you're going to have different kinds of people buying the car; rich people, working class people, people that don't have the cash to really throw at moding, hell even teenagers.

A stock 257 swap in this car would be enough for most. running off factory tune and all. So no worries, unless the motor is messed up already. When warranty is blown, the sky is the limit or whatever your budget is.

Just like Miata with rotarys, v8s or Rx7s with LSX or 20B swaps. Those cars are fun in stock form but some want more power/tq, different powerband characteristics and even sound.

Moto mentioned no sunroof! I remember we had a debate about this! I for one was for a moonroof but if it doesn't have one, it's all good.
"NO SUNROOF! for people who don't want it!!! Noted... "

Feels like a tease but it almost sounds like it might be an option...

I'll do without the sunroof/moonroof. I'm not a fan of having something directly overhead with a seal that will eventually go bad and leak all up in my what will likely be cloth interior.
