Garage
I picked up my FR-S on June 2nd. I spoke to the dealer in person 2 weeks before it was released. I was told that I'd be first... They received ONE FR-S on June 1st and called me... It was raining so I set an appointment to test drive June 2nd (saturday) with a good indication that I was going to buy. Had I went immediately I would have gotten the car as the base.. but apparently they took advantage of the extra day and added the hood shield and the rear bumper sticker that says Scion on it... and also added the trunk mat... another $500 on the price of a car they knew I was going to buy and knew these options would cost more. The trunk mat was the only thing I would have wanted...the only thing not attached.

On top of this the car came with a scratch on the mirror that the owner of the dealership came over and told us "we're not going to do anything with it." and then told the sales rep to stop the paperwork unless we would accept the scratch as-is. On top of dinging my trade in for $400 for a paint chip on the hood about the size 1mm is size and insisting that since I didn't have factory wheels that they would have to deduct..

I didn't let them get away with the factory wheel BS... but they really presented it as a "take it or leave it". Only 2 more FR-S were scheduled to come in to the area for the next few weeks. I took it. The mirror, while minor, will get replaced when the cost drops a bit.

I'll never spend $ at that dealer again.. They are free to give me all the oil changes and routine maintenance they include on their dime though.

To all the guys complaining about the dealers marking up the FR-S. You do know that SCION Corporate invoked "PURE PRICING" on all new FR-S'. That means they can not sale the car for anything other than MSRP on the stricker, and they are not supposed to add dealer upgrades unless asked for in the purchase order. Now used cars and or dealer demo cars are not audited, i have found 3 used FR-S' in SOCAL for $3-4K over msrp. Subaru's on the other hand are at least $5k over msrp, the cheapest BRZ in SOCAL found to date was $31,500, and that was with no dealer options. I found 1 limited for $33K. That is why purchased a FR-S, from Rich Manas @ Kearny Mesa Scion in San Diego. I paid $25,100 +TTL.

Pre-order it. With the power shortage in Japan, USA deleveries are well behind schedule.

I put my FR-S on order last week of Aug and had the same runaround glitch in the system with delivery. It finally showed up 10 Oct and I went to pick it up my original salesman had the day off but I wanted my car, so when I sat down with this other guy to complete my paperwork he showed me there was a difference in sticker price with the added Bespoke stereo and a rear spoiler, i got a little hughy and told him I didn't order it that way and wasn't paying that price and left. The next morning my salesman called me and said come get your car that I signed on the line for a set price and Scion would just have to take a loss on the extras. I would like to thank this salesman for stepping up and doing the right thing, Rick Mobley at Toyota of Goldsboro NC

Step 1: Go to cars.com and see how many cars are in your area at local dealerships (Be wiling to drive a bit, 50-100 miles isn't that bad)

Step 2: Contact the internet sales or fleet manager (these guys make most of their money based on volume and turnover) at the dealership(s) and say "I want this...I am willing to pay this, no more..."

Step 3: Get on a waitlist at places that don't add msrp mark-ups or bs add-on accessories (waiting a month or two isn't that bad, people drop off the waitlist all the time)

Step 4: One of these options will pan out...Enjoy your car...

edit: n/m; I re-read the OP that you're in socal, found the post:

haha Nothing, I walked in there and was helped by a fleet manager who let me take his boss's manual FRS out on a nice 2 or 3 mile drive with good turns and it was completely no hassle. He mentioned that his dealership, John Crowne did not put add ons like many other dealership.

With all this said, I am still waiting for mine to come in, but the Scion team there seems like a good team.
