I think the 2.5l in the TC is still a better engine than the Flat 4. Love the 86 but we all know Toyota makes better engines that Subaru.

Tires can also be a huge game changer. What can you tell us about the tires on these super cars the TC was beating?

Plus come on, the videos you saw were videos, on the internet. For all you know, it was during a lapping event with mixed classes or maybe even a warm up session. A guy at a Wintercross event I attended caged a mini van and beat a lot of the fwd guys, but he was a good driver. It doesn't mean the mini van was a race car.

Because I know them personally. Who said all the other cars were stock? So, now the theory is all other cars a tC comes across is stock? Just want to be certain which "reason" we are going with now. And yes, it's Advanced run group with Advanced run group drivers. There are no Advanced drivers even allowed to run in Novice group. Hell, you can't even pass in Novice group.

There are not many of these cars showing up to events. Like I said before, there are a handful of people driving them, and with the right driver and possibly some money invested, they can be competitive, but so can any other car. Out of the box, this is not considered a competitive car in any class.
Meh, if you consider bolting on a turbo setup, some coilovers and good tires to be "a lot of money" sure. I can't speak for California. I live in the South and have been on the tracks in my region.

That last part I bolded....Isn't that what it's about though? So, there is absolutely NO reason why anyone who proclaims to be a performance enthusiast, should belittle or hate on ANY one or ANY ones car because that's the platform they chose to build and have fun with. People like low trq don't seem to grasp that concept. And having been to many tracks, many people outside of the internet see it this way and welcome you. Come One, Come All..

Out of the box, it's a basic canvas. It's minus all the extra performance stuff those other FWD cars (MS3, Civic SI...etc) that are considered better, but is otherwise identical everywhere else (weight, dimensions, etc.)

I'm done replying now. Like I said, you can go search or just message me if you were curious enough.

P.S. I wouldn't consider any cars over 3,000 pounds to be "light", sorry.
I don't know why you are seemingly so upset with me since nowhere in my post did I address you directly. I lost interest in reading this argument somewhere in page 6 when it the conversation took a serious turn for the worse.

Incidently, the tC has a curb weight of 2905lbs (manual) and 2970 (automatic) so by your own definition, my statement about the car being light still stands.

Again, I can not stress enough that I am not here to argue to provoke anyone. I am merely trying to discuss why the tC makes such a lousy spec, track car and as of yet I have not heard any compelling counter-points.

(and to the gentleman that made the comment about liking the tC motor above the boxer... I will be the first to admit that my wife's tC engine has a much sweeter growl than the FR-S.)

Don't really know how to respond to this tread.... I have a tC with:

Work VS-XX
Stance coilovers
Ptuning Turbo kit w/ 308WHP

Its my daily.. and its fun. Not all tC owners do dumb stuff to their car or drive like a idoit.

The automatic tC1 has a seriously lazy-ass transmission. That thing is the Snorlax of transmissions. Took forever to figure out that you wanted it to GO. Stomp, wait wait wait oh, yes, your request to go has been processed, here we go...

The FR-S auto is light years better. In Sport mode it does a damn good job of keeping you in the powerband at all times, and it'll downshift in a flash when it needs to. Oh, and it actually has a completely manual mode, unlike the tC1.

This is kinda why I don't have a tC anymore.

I can't agree with this more. The auto in the tC is rubbish and can't seem to make up its mind which gear it wants to be in and the shifts feel like the bands are made of playdoh.

My wife's tC is an auto and so is my FR-S. I have never in my life ever owned an automatic sports car (and I've had a lot of sports cars) but I was sold the first time I drove it.

I own a Tc, and I <3 the FRS/BRZ. I make no false claims about what I drive though. It's a 2-door, 4-cylinder Camry with an aggressively geared 5-speed to make up for it's lack of HP. It's also insanely cheap to insure, decent on gas, and very reliable. I'd love to upgrade to an FRS/BRZ, but I can't justify a $30k expense right now--not to mention I feel that a 4door WRX is better $ spent living in the north-east.

An SRT-4 is not AWD, which you mentioned that as well. Secondly, If just say you were to add a roll run, I would put a 350whp tC against a 400whp Evo/STI and put my bet on the tC to win due to being less weight (not to mention seeing that I've seen a 300whp take out a near 400whp STI before). 10psi on a capable turbo you can expect 320-330whp and torque. 11.5-12 about 350-360whp. And that's just straight pump. Of course e85 will be a different story, but where internals start to fail is around 400whp.

This comment fails, because drivers are not created equal. If they were, there wouldn't be vids of a tC on the track, running down an M3, Vette, Evo, R35 GTR..etc. The wide tire part was commical as you can stuff huge rubber under a lot of cars (including tC's), but it doesn't mean it's going to work to your advantage. To wide on an AWD could result in more understeer.

You can sit here and bench race all you want to. All I'm just telling you is, it's not as slow as you think it would be. That is all. Don't bother responding if all you going to do is say well..."X car with X mod and this boost will destroy a tC"....blah blah blah.
You want to make a comment about understeer when defending the track credentials of a 300 whp front engine front wheel drive car?

I know right. I almost cried when I found out about the tax...funny how I forgot..
Everything here is so messed up...people here are jerks too(well for the most part, I never seem to have a problem, but Unfriendly/caught up in our own life-would better describe it)
Also, I dont know how much it is over there, but just to live in a 1br apartment here is around 1200 a month. (not that I truly care at the moment cause I still live with mom)
But I feel sorry for people who aren't as lucky as me. :/
*shrugs* seems like a lot for only 1br

I feel like the tC isn't a competitor to the FR-S. They are different cars for different lifestyles.

Seems as I go through these comments, we are just as bad by pointing fingers at them saying they have the "worst of the two" when lots of people don't have the life styles that allow them to park an FR-S in the garage every night.
Honestly, if I were to have been unsuccessful in my attempts to convince my wife to get an FR-S, she said that she would sooner have me drive a TC than a Camry SE V6 despite the additional power. Everyone has their own situation that will (like it or not) dictate what car will fit them best. Had things played out that way, I would be giving my thumbs up and not another choice of finger.
