But if you are tired of playing the shifting game, being forced to play it doesn't enhance but detracts from "the driving experience" if you don't want to shift. I recall watching several reviews where people stated they were surprised at how good the auto was and that its shifts were very well timed. So if I don't care about doing burnouts or racing everyone at a red light or taking the car to the track, do I really need the manual?

driven stick for over 7 years and never been tired of shifting; just tired of clutching in traffic. i have an auto daily driver but i still wish it was manual although i dont mind much since its a corolla. i never said the auto wasnt good; manual is just better. and what makes you think manual drivers do burnouts and try to race? i never do that

I love having the manual not only because it is more fun to drive, but I am able to get the most out of every drop of gas. I like going fast just as much as I love hypermiling...current tank is at 38.7mpg over the last 370 miles...so awesome. Moreover, manuals are lighter, smaller, more simple, and are just kind of required for a sports car.

I'm sure the automatic is good, but it sadly isn't a true double clutch...just a torque converted standard.

You're sharing anecdotal evidence. Manual is not better if the things that manual "makes better" are the things you don't want or care about. I could easily say Auto is better because I don't want to shift and it's a higher rated MPG. What's good for you isn't good for everyone.

more and more often autos are getting more and more effecient. its not uncommon to see the autos getting better gas mileage than the comparable manuals

i didnt think i would have to mention it but i implied aggressive, fun driving through the mountains, or even the streets. sure the auto is better at gas and in traffic but this is the frs/brz afterall..

Yeah, a fun car to drive that is also quite practical. Which is a huge draw for those of us that can't rationalize actually buying a sports car and have always relegated ourselves to driving boring vehicles previously. :p And the aggressive/fun part you mentioned can still happen with an automatic. That's more to do with the driver after all.

And it becomes quite clear right here why don't understand.

Manual has nothing to do with numbers, track times, or red light races.

im not saying i want an auto, im just saying that there is nothing wrong with it.
Spoken like someone who can't competently drive manual .

Shifting mid corner throws the balance of the car, so shouldn't be something you're doing (if driving competently). So, "losing steering feel" due to having a manual is not a thing.
