yikes this thread is going into all sorts of rage...

So in regards to that article..i really like that portion of the engine. An EJ engine that has been reworked..and doesn't share anything else from subaru other than the basic shape? wow.. interesting! so basically we know nothing of the bore-stroke-heads- which destroys some of the previous engine threads into bits. What a twist..this is turning into some soap drama on TNT..

but some of you understand that the FB20 is not a reworked EJ20...FB engine is actually larger in casting and positioning is much different.

worse case scenario: a reworked FB with the shape of the EJ.
best case scenario: a totally brand new engine based on the shape of the EJ.

me personally, i have this feeling its all new. maybe im just hoping, but goddammit im excited after reading this news...

Yeah all this new info is exciting, especially since it has been a famine here lately. Now we have a feast.

I wonder if Toyota will release the video of Toyoda driving the FT86 around Nurburgring?

For those of you questioning who Moto is, he's the guy that Toyota went to very early in the development of the FT-86 to find out from forum members and enthusiasts "What do you want in a modern, lightweight rwd sports car?".

So many trolls in here seem to forget that Toyota commissioned this car and gave the original design brief for it.

The fact that the block alone has been altered and is of a new design is a very good sign for those interested in the engine. It means that they have taken the necessary steps to provide the engine that they have set out to create from the start for the vehicle.
yep!

That's what I was saying tranz. He does the other stuff but doesn't participate much in the discussions. :\

I keep coming back here to read the article over and over. This is going to be an amazing car.

I hope it is based off the EJ20. The JDM EJ205 used in the STi has an 8500RPM redline. Hopefully that carries over to the 86.

I personally want a flat bottom steering wheel. Kinda like the LFA wheel but not as expensive and exotic. Use the same basic design, but for the budget car. Wouldn't even mind the engine start button (if they go this route) to be on the steering wheel. Just don't put all the radio/volume controls on the wheel.

Thank you Toyota from the bottom of my heart!

I'll explain why the AE86 is still my favorite car to this day, it has sentimental value to it. Here's the story. Ever since i was 14, i watched initial D, researched the car to hell, spent HOURS of my life just reading about the car, watching videos, hunting it down here in South florida looking for one and the few i found where either overpriced or just not right. So one day, i was still 14, i went to a local parkinglot car show they have every friday, and there it was, a MINT, Original, Red AE86, it was perfect, my heart sank. I approached the car with the biggest smile on my face, and i litterally left my dad to see the other cars and i stood there, just mesmerized, looking at it for what seemed like eternity, and the owner came up to me, he was 16! that alone gave me SO much hope, maybe one day i can have one myself! he said he's seen how i look at it, and told me to sit in it, and what happened next will remain with me forever, i was in a red, mint, AE86 hatchback with everything inside just spotless. I swear to all of you reading this, i started to just...Cry. I had tears running down my cheeks and this feeling that i cant get from any other thing in the world. I was crying, and laughing at the same time, they were tears of pure joy, and i havn't even been old enough to drive it, and the car wasn't even mine.

So i thank you Toyota, for giving this 16 year old a grasp of that moment and a load of hope.
Oh hey, I forgot to add how cool this story was ! Thanks for sharing .

This really deserves it's own post to emphasis the differences in reactions.

I'm not saying it isn't awesome to hear this story about the FT86(I think it is) but some of us just are not going to appreciate the attention to detail mentioned in Moto's story. Just a fact of life.

I've heard of Subie fans?techs? suggesting that the FB is simply a reworked EJ. The rumor does exist. For example the EL15 has a similar layout as the FB20, such as oversquare, and there were a couple other changes besides dual VVT that I have forgotten(not a Subie tech, sorry). But the EL15 was labeled a redesign by Subaru and it's basically just a redesigned EJ. It even has the crankshaft from the EJ25. The FB20 was supposed to have some similarities to both designs so I am throughly confused at this point. Thanks for reading. :|

Simply yes, I know you are right. I've already butchered my explanations enough so I'm going to leave it at that. :|

I don't know shit about Subie engines but I as long as Yamaha is finessing this engine we are going to be in very good hands!
