FYI, the cup holders pictured before it are something from the 70's/80's. The single din thing is actually newer looking and more modern.

That said, I wouldn't do either, but I would like to have a cup holder in a better location. I'm just not a fan of the add-on cup holders.

Well after using my new cup holder for a few weeks now, guess what, I really like it, not because I did it but because it works. For a couple bucks I can't beat it.

Yeah anyone whos owned a vw will tell you the stupid in dash cup holders are shit. I've had the entire thing fall out on me.

whereas I love the single din style cup holder that came factory in my 4runner.
