yes! i have considered that "option", however upon reflection,i believe i will take a
''pass" on it!..now as to your statement that plows need weight to push heavy snow, well this is a given, but it's ok if you do not know this, and i promise i will not refer to you as being "obtuse".

weight is "critical" period! i am astonished" that as a "new englander" you do not know this, however,as it's been proclaimed,"ignorance" is bliss! in any event, because the car is so 'f**king light,i cannot realistically recommend anyone attempting to make a "snowmobile" out of it,much less try to plow snow with it!.last time i checked,it was next to impossible to get a snow plow attachment for it,as the local scion dealers are all ''sold" out,and besides,ya cannot really plow snow with it anyway, WITHOUT depositing "ballast" in the "ass" end!..people in new hampshire have a distinct compulsion for being independent thinkers,so,with that said,
it would not be unusual for someone to attempt to plow snow with the car, however, unless i am mistaken,i thought i saw a label underneath the front bumper, that clearly states "not" to attempt to do so,and toyota
cannot be held responsible for any damage that "may" occur

the car is too light, and as such,IF you stop moving, especially in heavy wet snow,it will be very difficult to get moving again, with out dedicated snows. again!..if the snow is light,i don't see an issue, but ANYTHING heavier, and time to call a hook!..just sayin' (b.t.w.) requiring less brake force doesn't mean much,if you cannot get moving in the first place!
I drove a buddies MR2 Spyder in the snow a couple times. It was the absolute best car I've ever driven in the snow. It NEVER got stuck anywhere, be it heavy or light snow. He had Toyo snow tires on it I think. It only weighs 2200 lbs.

I think the BRZ will be just fine with a good set of snow tires and equal weight distribution.

JMaryt, reveals an interesting phenomenon - the farther north someone comes from, the better their sense of humor. Canadians are amazing, but New Hampshireites are very, very close.

This. Granted the MR2 is mid-engine and thus places the engine over the drive wheels like a FWD car, I don't foresee the FR-S/BRZ having any issue with proper snow tires. I love driving my MR2 around with snow tires in the winter; it'll go anywhere and is so tossable around corners! I could go out in a snowstorm when everyone else would stay home, and bomb around with my friend's STi for a bit of wintery fun! I actually don't plan on driving the BRZ in winter though, just because I don't want the salt to corrode it. Gonna get me a cheap beater!

yes! we "aim" to please, but unfortunately,SOMETIMES our aim
isn't too accurate, however more often than not,we hit the mark,
and subsequently "save" a "flush" or two!..just sayin'

yeah! i had a 2004 miata, that was pure "horse shit" in the snow,
because it was too light, and it was outfitted with "blizzaks" from bridgestone.
in fact i still have 'em (tires) in my shed in the yard.trust me when i tell ya,it WAS an adventure in ANY snow condition! no lie! it was truly horrible, and scary! my "ass" was shakin' when i got out of the thing when finally getting it home! it was all over the road, just too damn light!..(ballast) in the trunk too!
isn't the mr2 a "mid-engine" car?

I remember my friend had to go get my other friend because his miata was on the side of the road some snowy november night. The miata could only move sideways. He was running bald all season, he's an idiot. :happy0180:

And that other time, I helped a mustang stuck on the city street because it wasn't going anywhere on its large summer tires.

Winter tires + good driver = all you need in my opinion

At the end of this debate, the FR-S will be perfectly fine in the snow. The sum of its parts are will make it very do-able when the heavy or light snow falls.

A short wheel base + low center of gravity + near equal distribution of weight + snow tires = a snowmobile's competition.

More importantly, what brand are people thinking of tires? I have dealt with the Blizzaks with my 3 series, as well as the Toyo Garit. On my VW, I had the General's and they were more than suffice especially for the price. They reminded my much like the Blizzaks. For the FR-S I may try the Firestone Winterforce. I know the reviews, compared to other brands are not in the favor the Winterforce, I have experienced them on a Ford Taurus I was driving for a week. The tires have big advantages in deep snow allowed by the deep and wide treads- the price is very attractive as well.

The Toyo Garits have been my favorite so far. I feel there are a lot of tire brands, but most people just stick to the mainstream tire and what Tirerack says

Michelin x-ice have received the highest ratings from APA Canada and Consumer Reports. The Blizzak's do almost as well, and the General Altimax is the best of the "budget" winter tires.

I ran Wintermark Magnagrip (discontinued) studded tires for a few seasons, then got a set of Hankook Winter iPike W409 tires, which also work very well; they are studdable but I opted not to this time. I've turned into a bit of a Hankook fanboy as of late... great performance tires at a very decent price
