I think i'm around 400-450 miles on the exhaust. I'm hoping that tone will drop a bit too so I can take the silencers back out..so i'll be waiting to hear back from you. Did you drive around a good amount without the silencers? I'm only asking because I want to know if you heard the same loudness in the 3-5k rpm zone as I did. Its way more noticeable cruising on the highway. I re-adjusted my exhaust and it hasn't rattled so far, but the spot is right where the first bolt on spot is where the exhaust portion meets the midpipe portion. it is very close to the black crossmember. If you lay on the ground you will see it, its basically where the little hump is on the crossmember is for the stock exhaust to clear. (its like this but rounded ___/\___) |

Once I get the silencers out, I'll look specifically at the 3-5K range. I'll try to record from in the car as well. |

haha well give it some time on the next test drive. But cool..yeah thats the area its the "loudest". Its weird because about 5k you hear the intake and sound generator more than the exhaust.
I'm still on the fence whether or not I should keep this. I love the note, I love the look, but between those said rpm ranges, I can't drive around my town without being hassled. I like how its quiet with the silencers but I know it can't be good for performance. It would be cool to be able to hit up a dyno and do two runs, one with the silencers and one without. |

I'll keep the silencers off all weekend, do some driving around town and on the expressway. If my wife and daughter don't say "why is this car so loud all of a sudden?!" I'll know it passes. |

I agree, but thats my issue - they already aren't making much power, so i rather not have a silencer restricting it even further.
This exhaust goes from 2.75" straight through, to a 1" silencer. It has to be restrictive. I was talking with Adam from NLM and we were discussing modifying a set of silencers, maybe bumping it up to a 2" outlet or something bigger to lessen the restriction and give it a little bit more sound. I'll check my mileage as well when I get out of work and if its close to 500 or so I'll pull mine off again and recheck it. I am still doubtful though. |

I wonder if anyone could chime in and let me know which and how many kartboy extended hangers should I get to avoid any possible fitment issues because they have different sizes

Don't know about the Kartboy hangers, sorry Mike.
As for removing my silencers, one of the bolts is stuck on there good and I ended up stripping the hex head. Might have to cut it out somehow, so for now the silencers are staying put. I may have over torqued it when I put them back in last week and then the heat baked them on or something.

OK, broke the bolt off and took the silencers out. Love the sound, especially now that the system's got over 500 miles on it, it's not as obnoxious as it was the day it was installed.
There's a definite drone in the cabin from 3-4K RPM. I don't think I'll be able to capture that in a recording though, as it's more of a harmonic resonation. It didn't bother my wife at highway speeds, so maybe it's just me being more sensitive to the resonant frequency. I don't know. I'm not sure if putting something like second skin damplifier or similar products would help with the drone. Easiest way to work around it is to shift out of that range but it's pretty much right around highway speeds 65+, so that would be a problem to those with daily highway commutes. I really love this system, the throaty exhaust note, and the looks. I just need to figure out how to handle this 3K drone without the silencers in. I'll try to capture some videos as soon as this crappy weather lets up. |

No noticeable drone for me with silencers in. Keep in mind that some people are more sensitive to drone than others. For instance, with silencers out, my wife wasn't bothered at all, whereas I was between 3 and 4K. With silencers in, neither of us have a problem, but my daughter in the backseat was getting sick at highway speeds. I suppose certain parts of the cabin may be more susceptible to it than others.
I'm keeping my silencers out for now as I rarely have to drive for long periods on the highway. I'll reach out to GReddy to see if they can recommend some ways to mitigate the drone, even if I have to pay extra to have someone fabricate something, I still think the EVO3 exhaust is a great system. |
