"This car is crazy, has 2 wings, one on roof and an active aero wing like Porsche/Audi TT that comes up at 50mph on the hatch and just for the price of $22k starting. It's 181hp177tq TURBO and ~2600#." You quoted the starting price of the Cooper, and gave the engine specs of the Cooper S. What's there to miss? |

I put a (.) period. Then went on to say the Cooper S specs.. because of picture but just amazed at the gadgetry of a $22k premium brand car.

I think you did a piss poor job of writing what you meant. Just read your last two sentences again. You end with it starting at $22k and then jump straight on the 181hp/177tq without evening mentioning you were switching to the Cooper S coupe specs. That is the issue Sebastian has. But you have since clarified. |

No worries. At first I was shocked Mini would sell that much car for $22k. But even $25.3k is a decent price for what you get. So I was kinda confused as well. But that is water under the bridge.
PAIT, do you have any further info on the active wings on the Cooper S coupe? I guess I should clarify. Is that something that is only active when you hit 70mph on the highway? Or will it be used under braking as well? Could it be used at the track for increased traction. |

I love the Cooper Coupe, but if I'm buying a two seater, it'll be a 370Z, Miata, or MR2 Spyder with a 2ZZ swap.

I like the concept of Mini's and I like the over all design of the new Coupe. But, Why the f*** do they feel the need to stick the Speedo in the middle of the dash?!?!

3000lbs with driver and adult passenger, maybe. If that's the car's curb weight then this car is DOA in my eyes. It's easy to change your car to mimic the feel of a high-horsepower car by...well, adding horsepower. But if a car is naturally overweight, its exxxtrreeemmeeellly hard to reduce it far enough to mimic the feel of a light-weight car in the corners.
The AE86 wouldn't have garnered such a huge following if it weighed 500-600lbs heavier than it came out as. It was already underpowered at ~2300 lbs (U.S. spec), but at least its meager weight kept the car -FUN-. Since then enthusiasts have found ways, evenly cheaply while maintaining reliability, to make the car much faster in terms of power, without having to do anything to the weight....its light as is. All of that said, R&T is pulling that weight number out of their ass. And if the car weighs more than 2800lbs, I'm not touching it. I would much rather see 160-170 flywheel HP and 2600lbs than 200hp and 2800+. But I'm a minority of people that enjoy light-weight nimble sports car's in a website who's car is (supposedly) dedicated to light-weight nimble sports cars. |

You're not alone, I think we all prefer it to be light and nimble too but ~75lbs isn't going to kill the car if that weight sacrifice is for a power(turbo). The new Legacy turbo configuration has a very low CG and moves ~75# of weight forward about 3-4", very negligible difference.
