My XM radio trial goes to 8/26, but I had them enable the NavTraffic right away, so they just charged me for a partial month, and then will do the full $3.99/month after the trial's done, so that XM subscription and my NavTraffic are billed concurrently.

I figure I will use the NavTraffic until I come up with a better (cheaper) integrated solution..and unlike the XM Radio, it's a month-to-month contract.
So what does the Nav show with NavTraffic enabled? What's different about it?

When the traffic is activated, there's an additional "square" icon on upper right side of map screen, just below the "rectangular grid" menu icon that brings up normal nav menu items. The square icon turns to a yellow exclamation mark or hazard type of symbol, as I recall (only saw it once today), when traffic events are detected along your route. When you select the icon, the screen changes to a details about the traffic events detected along your route, or if no traffic events are present, it gives you information to that effect. The same screen lets you make decisions about re-routing.

To make sure it was working, I plugged in a route which I knew would have traffic problems this morning, but I did not drive the route. Right away, the icon turned to a "caution" type of symbol, and when I selected it, it told me there were three events along my route. I haven't heard any announcements yet since activating the service, because I was just sitting in my driveway. But as I remember from driving home from the dealer with the NavTraffic activated, as it was on the first day I bought my car as part of the dealer's test procedures, NavTraffic will also announce a traffic event and ask you what you'd like to do in terms of re-routing as you drive and encounter traffic jams.

Thanks for the update. I still have an open case with SoA and will call them on Monday. I'll also see what I can do with regards to XM, it's been very frustrating talking to them but my guess is this isn't their fault, SoA probably didn't supply them with the right information.

So I was able to get this fixed through SoA. They managed to call up XM on my behalf and get the radio unit added with a trial subscription. XM charged the account $5.15 for the cost of the subscription up to my trial ending (9/15) and then credited the account the same amount.

In case anyone else runs into the same issue my case # through SoA is 1-2052362171 I'm sure they can look it up and figure out the same method to fix it.

It is supposed to be part of the trial but for whatever reason is not being activated because the radio ESN is showing as not compatible.

Now I just have to call XM back and make sure it's included when I change to a normal subscription. They did give me a multi-car discount (20% off second subscription) but you need to call and get that, online it won't show it.

Here is a picture of the Nav with traffic enabled. The antenna icon changes to a traffic icon. It does change the color of the roads and shows events like accidents even without a route planned, but if you have a route planned it will audibly announce things as well like "Traffic jam ahead."

I thought I'd bump this.
My trial ran out, so I subscribed to XM. Had trouble subscribing to NavTraffic. Reps in XM had to manually override the system, which didn't list the Nav as compatible with traffic. After that was done, it's working and I can see that during trial NavTraffic never worked right. It would show the receiver as active, but no events ever popped-up.

Now it's working properly. So - call Subaru to fix this for you during trial.

So you call SOA and not XM? Just want to make sure before I waste some time.

What information does XM need? I just want to make sure i'm prepared. I'm still have 3 months of trial left I believe. So i'm guessing you're screen shows it's activated AND you're getting traffic alerts, right? Someone's screen here showed it was activated but not getting any alerts until XM or SOA fixed it.

Do we need to open a case with SOA as previously mentioned on this thread?

Thanks for any help

Just got off the phone. It took some time since they had to escalate the issue up the chain of command. They were all very nice.

I'm trying to push for them to add the free NavTraffic to my existing trial subscription. Not sure how that's going to work out. They'll call me back later they said.

Btw... I had to provide my VIN# (or the Radio ID which I don't have access to at the moment) and their system also said my radio shows as not compatible.
