Thank you. The "unintended acceleration" wasn't Toyota's fault at all. People should really learn how to operate a vehicle before they're allowed on the road. Didn't the salesperson at Scion make a huge deal about making sure your floor mats are secure and not to add aftermarket ones on top of the existing ones? Mine did.

I HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME LAST WEEK LOL. yeah theyre definitely mad that they got screwed over once the FRS came out...

My FR-S now has almost 7,000 miles. Driving it, you quickly get used to receiving lots of people noticing you and giving thumbs up. I've had just the opposite experience of the OP, in that a very high proportion of TC drivers notice and express approval of the FR-S.

In my personal experience, the highest proportion of thumbs up are received from guys driving cars in the Asian-sporty-car category: TCs, souped up Civics, Integras, Subaru WRXs, and the like. They all seem to know what the '86 is and respect it. The second biggest proportion comes from Porsche drivers, and the third from Mustang/Corvette/U.S. muscle car drivers.

The ones with their noses in the air seem to be the crowd with BMW sedans, but then again many of those drivers seem to think all-around that their poop doesnt stink.

The FR-S is so much more than any Scion ever made. It caters to a more adult crowd, sure kids will buy it because its relatively cheap and because its branded as a Scion, but those of us with experience driving cars like the old Celicas, Supras, RX-7s, 240-300ZXs, etc. it brings back a certain awe of the purity of the car. Theres no fluff on this car, its an enthusiast car, it may just be the best car Japan has created in decades and Toyota in a fit of gross decision making brands it as a Scion which is basically the bargain bin of Toyota engineering...

Sorry for the rant but thats what i feel.
yeah i do get what you mean, this car in the scion branding is like out of place. but i mean as far as people trying to roll up and race on you, it woudnt matter what brand it is.

On another note, it would be nice if it was branded toyota and called gt86 and came with some of the nice gizmos like in japan, i mean if the brz can come with hids, why not the fr-s, i know its meant to be cheap and affordable and whatnot, but i would pay a little extra for the HIDs and the sterring wheel with 86 does look sexier than the scion badge

It's almost as if it's a triplet...

Maybe the FRS/TC thing is a brotherly issue...but I'm going with bitter jerks ftw...in my area I have an issue with GTI's...everywhere a GTI owner with a crap attitude...the same condescending stare or engine rev...the other day at the gas station...3 times around the pump...wtf I would have just gotten out and asked about the car.

Yeah the top 3 in ricer flybys for me by far are GTI, SRT4, and tC. They all seem to have a major chip on their shoulder. I shouldn't say all, because there are plenty of people in these cars who just check out the car and give me the thumbs up, but whenever I get the ricer flyby it is one of these 3 cars. I stick with my policy of not paying attention to them.

Tell me about it... hate this high altitude for driving but love the mountains. Thus why I am going turbo or sc as soon as I can.

Yeah but you're still stuck to 91 octane. Probably the only benefit to moving from colorado which I love to redneck Kentucky is that they have 93 everywhere, e85 and no emissions testing. Catless exhaust here I come!

So if i were a TC owner i'd sure be bitter. If its front wheel drive and not a turbo diesel i want nothing of it.
I own a tC and I'm the farthest thing from bitter. I bought my tC1 in 2007 while I was in college and it is completely paid off.

For the price of the tC, my choices in the market were limited to the corolla, civic, golf (NOT gti), Jetta. For the price, the tC had WAY more features (i.e. sun roof, alloy wheels, etc).

I picked up a civic lx equivalent with more features for the same price. It gets me from point A to point B. I think it looks better than the 07 civics.

Half the time I drive under 60 mph anyways because of all the traffic jams during rush hour.

People need to realize what the tC is. It was meant as a competitor to the civic. People can argue that it competes with the Si... and even then I think it's a stretch. In my mind, it is a toyota version of the civic coupe since the corolla doesn't come as a coupe.

As for the OP...

Maybe it's the area you're in. Honestly, I don't know.

It's just frustrating when you're trying to enjoy your daily drive (I have a VERY short commute) and someone ruins it by doing the sterotypical ricer move. eh...i'll get over it, but it more just venting.
They should just take a drive to Naperville. Go see the Neuqua Valley parking lot. You'll find a couple 7-series. Tons of A4's. Tons of new Mustangs. Then hang around for the Neuqua Valley high school annual auto show. lol.

It really just comes down to the people in the area and their mentality. Some people get cocky attitudes when they have the best car among their friends.

i.e. if all their friends are driving 95 civics and they have a 09 tC, I'd be willing to put down money that they think they're all that and more. Anything that comes and presents a potential for someone to think otherwise... and they get pissed off.

The tC is not a real performance car or sports car, just a sporty coupe. It attracts a lot of what I like to call "pretenders", or "would-be" car people. I'm sure I'll get flak for saying this, but it's true. I've been to a lot of Toyota/Scion meets and talked to a lot of people who own them. Not saying they're bad people, either. Just not real performance car enthusiasts. My stepbrother is one of those people. Always goes for a "sporty" car rather than a "sports" car.

Before anyone tries it, yes I've seen Chris Rado's cars, and they are about as close to the production car as a NASCAR Camry is to the production model, so please don't waste your breath.

I've been to way more than you I'm sure, and while there are a large part of the non-performance enthusiast....they are STILL enthusiast. And there are performance minded enthusiast as well, so I find this to be off base in your observation.

Camry NASCAR -to- Production car, there is nothing there.

Rado's tC -to-production car....it IS a Scion tC period. Same motor, chassis, etc..
