Germans cars having issues or the engine going bang?
If its about the motor.... Being a newly developed motor and also being a boxer which are known for oil consumption issues on past EJ motors and other niggly problems. My expectation is for something to go wrong. Especially having one of the first cars of the boat. At the end of the day motor isn't being built by Toyota. By saying the motor is going to go bang is a figure of speech. Expect the worse and you don't get disappointed lol If its about German cars old bosses had nothing but issues with their 3 series to the point where the ECU failed on one of their cars and she was locked inside her car. In comparison we aren't having that many issues.

Toyota / Lexus cars have been surveyed to be the most reliable cars on the planet for years ! Subaru below average. And although highly desirable & usually awesome cars to drive, it's not uncommon for the top German marques to have many issues.

Loan cars owned by a dealer are loaned to a client at the dealer's discretion. Now if TMCA agree to loan you a car that would be between you and them. Threatening to contact them because a dealer doesn't see why they should be out of pocket due to a problem they had nothing to do with? Interesting. It would be nice if dealers could operate loan cars for free but unfortunately this is not the case. As for the you fk it you fix it attitude, how has the dealer fked it? Did they make the car? Are we the authorized representatives for the brand? Yes we are, however, making demands of people who have nothing to do with causing the problem won't get you much help i would think, however, if you asked nicely for a bit of help i can't see why anyone wouldn't want to help you. |

Most dealers know the drill pal, you ARE the factory's representative and therefore must look after the customer when problems arise under warranty. The 'we didn't build it' attitude will not go down well with the factory since it's them which will pay you in the end for all repairs under warranty. You MUST look after the factory's interests, having that sort of mentality will earn you no friends or RO's for that matter.
Many dealers these days will not hesitate in loaning a car be it their own or the factory's, even for servicing - for free. Being diplomatic is the best policy when dealing with anything really and so when I approach a dealer for help then I would obviously do it in a non-threatening manner. My current Toyota dealer does a MAGNIFICENT job & I highly recommend them to all my friends & family. I have known them for almost 20 years buddy, I have a great relationship with the service dept & TMCA Tech Division if it's ever required. Their work ethic & superb relationship with the factory tech team is one of the reasons why I drive a Toyota - if anything goes wrong there's a good chance it will get fixed really quickly. A LOT of dealers can learn from them. |

You'd be surprised... whilst a dealer doesnt HAVE to provide you with a loan car.. under the Australian Consumer Law (which i have to have an indepth knowledge of for work..) you are more than adequately covered. I'm not going to quote indepth but essentially under the new ACL you have:
The way the Australian marketplace works is hoping that 90% of consumers are blissfully unaware of these rights and typically where i have applied pressure they will provide one "no, we refuse go away" response and then when you push it and say you're willing to invoke your rights they will then roll over and play ball. |

Whats wrong with Subaru reliability?? Provided you dont skimp on oil changes (a trait of a boxer engine) subie blocks are normally pretty tough with many going toe to toe with Toyota blocks anywhere upwards off 300 thousand km's.
Then you have STI which given they would have the vast majority of their life being driven hard (really hard) are pretty bulletproof too.

Sorry pal, I actually luv the WRX & STI's - they're legends in the motoring world. I was only quoting info from JD Powers annual reliability survey. The Subes don't do as well as Toyota's I'm afraid.
Can vouch for regular oil changes - every 5K if possible, you will be rewarded if you keep it long enough. PS: Yes I love the new consumer guarantee (one of the 3R's), it puts more pressure on the manufacturer or retailer to do the right thing. Last edited by ZZT86; 10-11-2012 at 10:56 PM. |

I wonder what would happen if you went and hired a Ferrari for a week, then gave them the bill.

http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.../itemId/962098 I read through your previous link and as usual with these types of things the words "may be able" and "could include" definitely imply that it's possible and as usual you do have a right to persue these things but it's not a guarantee of success either. Listen mate, i don't want to split hairs with you about what everyone's rights are or are not. All i was saying in my previous post was you are more likely to get the help you need if you ask nicely for it; remembering that your dealer is not responsible for any manufacturing defect or fault with a car. Are we expected to rectify the problems? Of course we are. I'm not trying to piss anyone off buddy but there's no need for animosity towards your dealer for something they will endeavor to fix for you. |

I definitely abide by the "more fly's with honey than vinegar" approach and when dealing with a company in regard to a fault its always in a polite calm manner and i give them the opportunity to do it their way first. And agree with the comments regarding the dealer. My dealer is AWESOME, he's getting an 86 as well (stuck on the same wait list as many on here) so we talk about it whenever i need to come in. They drop me off at work when my car is in getting serviced and they deliver it back to my work in the afternoon when they're done. :happy0180: |
