I thought of this too. I considered drilling and bolting but that's a tough call unless you have absolute certainty of the optimal position.

Weirdly I started hearing the click/popping noise just this past week. This after I installed a CBE. I only hear it when I go over bumps.

Good to know that Scion/Subaru knows of the issue and has a fix in the works. :happy0180:

Yeah, three days ago I was all jazed about the lube job for the trunk noise but it's back. I'll probably make an appointment soon with my local dealer.

Darn. That sucks. Maybe it has something to do with how much we spray. But ya, having the dealer take care of it probably is the best bet since they seem to know about this issue already.

Well the dealer identified and fixed this noise for me. Bad spot weld in the center of the deck lid. They center punched it and its been 2 days on incredibly rough NYC roads with no noise.

Thanks for the update. It's nice to know that the dealers are fixing this issue now instead of just telling us that they can't do anything because there is no info.

I updated my first post to mention about this fix under "Fix done by the dealers in U.S.".

Freakin' awesome, two squirts a Honda, graphite impregnated, motorcycle chain lube and my sanity returns. I would have never thought would be the problem. I thought the little subwoofer I had installed in the trunk had rattled some wires loose.

Next... taking the FRS to the dealer Saturday for them to hear my fuel pump chirp along with the Scion TSB number.

Are you talking about the picture on the first post?
Or the picture of the center punched lid?
I'm not sure which picture you're talking about, but both pictures should be there.

It seems like the pictures in question have disappeared.

I bookmarked this thread so I could fix the noise on my car but when I went back to the thread yesterday, no more pictures!

Can you describe the pictures you're talking about?

WD40 is an ANTI-degreaser

wouldn't we want to put GREASE in there (such as graphite silicone whatever)

otherwise logic dictates that as soon as the WD dries then the noise will come back.

Thanks for the info. I've been getting suggestions to use grease type spray instead of WD-40. My plan is to try White Lithium Grease spray next if mine starts to make noise again. But so far, it's been 3 weeks with 0 pop.

Here's my update. I tried the lithium grease and it worked for perhaps a little more than a day.

I took my car in to the dealer yesterday. I've known the advisor there since 1999 as he always did the service write ups on my wife's 4Runner. I showed Terry the two spots in the back under the package shelf and told him I had read mixed comments on this forum about there was and then there wasn't a TSB and how I read that someone said they welded the joints and someone else said they spread the gaps further apart.

Today he called for me to come pick up my car. Long story short. In frustration the tech called Toyota/Scion. They told him they were aware of the problem and there would be a Bulletin coming out within a matter of a few weeks. They would not give the tech a heads up as to what the bulletin was going to suggest as a fix. As soon as the dealership gets the TSB they (and apparently all dealerships) will know the procedure to follow to make the repair.
