When you are building an NA beast, I suppose every last horsepower counts...

The boxer rumble is the sound of inefficiency. After a turboback exhaust a typical ELH will net between 10 and 30 horse depending on the engine and header design.

I thought it was something like 5-10 horsepower, so people didn't bother? Or does it all depend on the setup?

It's all depends on setup

I could see 30hp on a high boost setup...With UEL headers it seems like you really have to worry about valve overlap and scavenging because having one strong exhaust pulse get to the cylinder just as the exhaust valve closes could really fuck up everything, whereas if you have EL headers with tube lengths optimized for the top of the powerband, remembering that the compression ratio being like 9:1 or whatever you could potentially displace 10% of the cylinder volume worth of leftover exhaust with air/fuel mix, that could be worth 30hp. In practice I imagine it's hard to get that much though.

i was planning on going with UEL, full exhaust, intake, and reflash. no boost for a while, so if it wasn't too big a difference, i'd just rock the UEL, instead of the EL. dunno, but UEL headers on boxers just sound sexy to me

also: halfway to my new car! just gotta double what i got, and then go order

It depends on the setup. I've seen a KillerB 4-1 make 23 horse before, but of course you'll want the rest of the breathing mods done as well. More gains on factory freaks and cars with extensive modifications. The typical header will be around 10 to maybe 20, but even an aftermarket UEL will make power over stock in the neighborhood of 5 to 10.

Nice. Not much happened of note, that I can think, unless you weren't around for a certain vendor meltdown.
