I didn't say it made sense. It's just a possibility. We all know that Toyota is prone to doing silly things sometimes. Like selling this as a Scion instead of a Toyota for example.

200hp, 150lb/ft for a flat 4 isn't too bad, but if this going to be the spec for the FR-S and if there won't be any better model then i am not going to have business with toyota or subaru. Maybe its time to contact some chevy dealer for the upcoming carmaro ZL1.

Are you real trying to consider a $23-25k Scion in the same sentence as a $50K Camaro ZL1? lol you crack me up.

Haha, I kinda figured that. Although... I wouldn't be surprised if someone ends up paying that much for one with a bunch of dealer-installed goodies.

Just because I CAN doesn't mean I will. If a really unique, cool little car for 20-25k is being developed and it looks like it may actually perform well and be pretty cool, then why wouldn't I want to wait and see if it's any good? It'll cost me less in insurance, the car will be easier to work on, parts less expensive, and how good do you think the FR-S/SubCoupe would be with an extra 15k in it? Why do you think I'm so damn hard on the car? |

Semantics though. Just because you technically CAN compare the two, doesn't mean you should. The similarities stop at having two doors. I'm not an American muscle car fan, so Mustangs and Camaros aren't on my list of possible buys, but a future fourth generation RX7 or fifth generation Supra are. I'm not about to start comparing the two, because they're in totally different leagues. My expectations for a $25,000 car and my expectations for a $50,000 car are not the same.

I could also dump money into my GTI instead of buy a whole new car. Drop in the AWD from the Golf R, mod the hell out of the engine, do full coilovers and new rims tires, etc. I want to try something different tho, which is why I'm interested in this car. |

There's nothing wrong with how you consider the FT, Maxim. I totally get it. I'm in a position that I could get a Cayman S, Evora, or a M3. At the same time though, I have other plans for that $$ and have decided not to go that route this time around. I'm looking for as much fun as I can get somewhere between 22-28k. Just remember that in comparing it to a 50k car you have to include what the other 25k (maybe 30k if you finance it) could go towards.
So compare the ZL1 to the FT86 + a wrangler + a nice turbo upgrade for your GTI and a decent pair of running shoes.

I could sell my 7 and Talon to bring payments down to an affordable range on a GT-R or a Z06, but I'm not going to get anywhere near a equal return (I mean fun, not monetarily) on that investment. [Edit] On a similar note, if Toyota or Mazda release any solid information about releasing a Supra/RX before the FR-S is released you better believe I'm jumping on one. They also better not be in S2000/RX8 or even 370Z territory in terms of performance. Last edited by 82mm 4g63; 07-03-2011 at 12:11 AM. |
