Frs vs s2000

I agree with Mike, E85 isn't a practical DD solution for the vast majority of owners. The closest station to my house/work is a good 40 minutes away.

Now, if someone comes out with easily switchable maps or a good flex-fuel sensor I could see it being a great trackday fuel. But IMHO, it's never going to be a good daily fuel. Ethanol will NEVER be produced efficiently or in high enough quantities to support that on a large scale unless the government gets their collective heads out of their collective asses and stops letting the corn lobbies control ethanol production. And I can almost guarantee that's never going to happen. Unless there is a paradigm shift in technology for ethanol production or the US suddenly acquires territory where crops like sugar cane can be produced in vast quantities it's just not going to happen.

I'd like to see a track car running straight methanol (with a bit of castor oil for improved lubrication properties) myself. Helloooo boost.

On the S2000 vs 86 topic, I think it's a bit of a silly comparison. Show me how to fit my guitar and amp into an S2000 while still having room for a passenger and maybe we can talk. Unless we're talking straight up performance numbers the cars really aren't in the same class.

If I had a chance to pick up a good s2000 I would.

To me, the s2000 is more rare. Where I am at... I have seen more Fr-S's than I have s2000's. For me anyways, I feel the s2000 has more of that rare quality. I feel that it is a toy, a weekend car, etc.

With the BRZ and Fr-S, it still feels like a sports car. But at the same time it is a lot more practical for the everyday drive. You can fit skis/snowboards in. You have backseats even though they are small.

From a practicality and a multi-use (track, DD, etc) I would say the 86 is a better choice. This however, does NOT mean that I think the s2000 is a better track car. It just means that the 86 suits my needs better and the 86 is what I would choose in choice.

However, I would love to own a s2000 IF there was a good deal on one.

In terms of performance: Miata < FR-S/BRZ < S2000.

The above makes sense given the price points of the cars.

If Subaru ever releases a BRZ-STI, that will be the car to compare to a hard-top S2000.

It's a convertible, if you have winters it sucks, it's also a tight fit, uncomfortable for daily driving if you actually put on more than 12k a year. No storage.

The FR-S feels more composed, easier to drive and is more comfortable to drive all the time. And in many ways, despite it being slower, I personally think out of the box it can be driven faster with much less skill. The S2000 to me would be a good weekend project car, not so much a daily driver.

Both cars stock,s2000 is faster around a track mainly due to its high rev engine but needs better reactions when it is driven 10/10.
For everyday use the Gt86 /Frs/Brz is far more practical and comfortable but fast as the s2k in the twisties when needed.Furthermore,at 10/10 there is nothing like the feel you get from the GT86:happy0180:

You should never drive 10/10ths on public streets. However flooring the throttle to get that push back into your seat is perfectly safe, in most cases, to do on public roads. Sadly the GT86 does not shine there.

sorry but i didn't get what you mean exactly.If you are talking about the ability of each car to yaw only by stepping on the throttle,yes there the s2k is far better than the GT86

The appeal of any sports car is fun. And you want fun that you can enjoy every day. I was I replying to your 10/10ths comment about the GT86 being more fun than the S2000 at 10/10ths. Thats why I said its not something to do every day (i.e. on public roads).

As to my second comment I was making a comment in favor of more power in a car, because you can floor it in a straight line for fun on public roads (unless you have an absurdly powerful car). In this respect the S2000 wins..which isn't something the S2000 can brag about to many other cars, lol.

The funny thing was when I used to get on it in my old AP1, the power itself wasn't what made me smile... it was letting the engine sing all the way to 9k rpm. Unfortunate that the AP2 folks don't get to appreciate that.

I'm more than happy to trade off the 9k redline for the AP2's power/tq/gearing. I can't say it enough (and a bit off topic), the difference between the two is night & day. Throw a tune on the 06+ and the AP1 really feels anemic in comparison. There is no way I'd get an AP1. Out of the question. And I am an AP2 fanboi. Just IMO, AP2>BRZ/FR-S>>>>>>AP1.

The easiest way to feel the push into your seat is to have a really high car that pitches backwards. Same way that a car with a ton of brake dive makes you perceive deceleration more. The lower the car, the lower the center of gravity, and the longer the wheelbase, the less you'll feel the same rate of acceleration. To get a low sports car is to give up some of that acceleration feel for actual quickness.
