I was told by a dealer or read somewhere (I forget) that only 3500 BRZ's would be available this year in the U.S.

well I was looking for either at the time and for BRZ the waiting period was 12weeks and FR-S was available in many dealers. I wanted the car right away so I got a FR-S. So I think that this is one of the reasons why the sales numbers of FR-S are higher..

Sales of the FR-S is higher because they are physically producing more. Both cars are flying off the lots so there really is no reason for Subaru to spend money on commercials just yet.

I think they have already sold more FR-Ss than all the years of MKIV TT Supras combined (93-98 in the US).

I've heard that too, and we even have evidence that it's not just a rumour:

I would add 1 to the May total as I bought my car, which wasn't a 1st 86 car on May 31.

I kind of resent the " frs is for ricers that just want to hoon around like assbags"comment theme vibe i'm getting. I didn't order the frs because I am some ricer kid. One my local Subaru dealer sucks balls. Two the frs was available sooner and has no markup on price. Three I don't like the mustache thing on the brz and finally four I wanted hot lava.
