Hey in another decade or so you'll start to notice that getting old is actually fun

That's the spirit! So you're saying the field guy was in fact there and did the reflash? Really hope you get to go on a nice autumn twisties drive for your birthday! <3

Harry told me field tech will be there today so just waiting to hear how it went.no call yet and I have every foldable part crossed in hopes. But I am sort of a pessimist so....yeah lol

as for getting old, It's not that bad...I will be a cool cougar with great taste in cars one day...as for now I don't look my age so it doesn't sting as bad yet.

My idle is a rock solid 650 rpm. no hunting, no dipping.

You guys should tell your service adviser about this fix. Why wait for a back ordered ecu?

Tempting, although my service adviser did say that if they had the machine to do that, they wouldn't have ordered an ECU.

That's my POINT. They don't need a machine. But whatever, it seems this thread has just become a chat room while we wait for our cars.

Add me to the list, I think... My FR-S, bought June 15th, vin. 7008xx PA, 6MT, careful 1000 mile break in, threw a cel blink first at 1300 miles when I hit 7100 rpms then went out. Came on again, at redline or close, shortly after that. Next time it blinked and stayed on with sl and cruise light. I don't like idiot lights on in a new car, so I pulled batt. terminal and reset light. I never got the idle hunt but it was in a safe mode whenever the cel was on. I hate dealers so I just pulled the batt. terminals and shorted + to - each time that happened and everything went back to perfect for another couple hundred miles or so. I put Amsoil in at 7000 and have over 7500 on the car now. Car runs perfect, idles well, pulls stronger the more miles I put on it, and I zip up to redline every time I drive it.... Last cel was well before oil change.
Makes me think the comment I read about possible oil passage issues in the head castings might be lessened with the Amsoil product??

New Toyota Fix???

Ok, let me try this one more time:

I got a call from my service Adviser (SA). He said he got a call from Toyota with a fix.
According to my Invoice this is what they did:

"Toyota called and advised RECAL for ECM Available.
PERFORMED RECAL WITH NEW ID.
Test drove 50 miles. No MIL returned and VEH runs good."

My car had 600 miles on it. My interpretation is this:

NO new ECU. No REFLASH. No Special dealer hardware needed, it's a different way to fix the ECU.

My car runs great with a rock solid 650 RPM.

Understood?

Update #81

10/10 call from service advisor: Subaru field tech flashed ecu. Shop forman is going to drive car for a few days to monitor cel/idle issue. I can call Friday am to see if car is ready for me to take home.

Also as per tsb for crickets: will be correcting this as well as the chirping was rampant and not a figment of my imagination, or a "cute characteristic" as I last called it.

Well the "RECAL WITH NEW ID" does sound like they installed new software into the ECU/ECM but with other words

So...I dropped my car off at the dealership today to have the fuel pump replaced, to correct the chirping under the hood. As I pull in, the idling issue that has been plaguing our cars starts happening; car idles extremely rough and threatens to stall. As soon as I park it in their service lane, the CEL comes on and starts flashing. Talk about good timing?

FR-S/Nevada/3144 Miles (though it has been idling odd for about 1500 miles now, the CEL/Rough Idle just occurred today)

The difference seems to be this: They Remotely hooked up to a Toyota Computer over the internet and transferred the new data direct to my ecu.

No dealer tools needed, no special factory tech needed, like in a "re-flash"

So, IMHO, a RECALabration is not the same as a reflash.

my idle is around 650, which is kinda low considering my previous car mazda 3. it was around 750~850.. the idle went up & down for a while then I found out the maf sensor was damaged while changing to aftermarket air intake kit.

when the a/c pump kicks in it has the tendency to lower the engine rpm unless the ecm/ecu is programmed to run on higher rpm when a/c is on to overcome this. just my $0.02
