the location and orientation for this one is a little wierd. At least the cusco one lays flat.

Cusco is different though. Only a catch can which needs to be drained occasionally. Not going to get on that subject too much since there is already a thread about it.

Just pointing that out because the separator has to be designed like this to allow enough space for the inner workings to function. Location is the same though.

You could do this I think. I might try it also and get a picture. It might need a new hose, since the supplied one COULD be a little short for that. And there are a surprising number of cables and whatnot under there already. Ill test it this weekend.

the reason for such a high mounting point is to drain the oil back to engine block with help of gravity. The original subaru wrx (top mount intercooler version) was not sitting high enough for the oil drain to back. so they made some improvements.
And from the looks of it, they made some changes on the brz version.

Heres a picture of mine with the tubes going under the manifold. Its super tight under there, and as was mentioned there are a lot of other wires and stuff that you have to pull it through. I was a little concerned after i took it for a drive i checked the tube to make sure nothing was melting or messed up... there was a bunch of black gunk on the egr tube that was under the intake manifold... Apparently they used a soft weather-stripping like sealant on the manifold or something, and some of it rubbed onto the tube when i pulled it through. If you feel under the plastic part of the manifold (on both sides) theres some tacky black crap. It felt a lot like weather stripping, but i could be wrong. Someone please chime in if thats bad, lol cuz i honestly don't have a clue.

edit add: i was going to run both sides under, but the tube that came with the cusco kit wasn't long enough so i had to put one up and one down, i might redo them in the future to tidy it up when i add more stuff, but i'll leave it as is for a while.

awesome, thanks for that! I had a pretty tucked STi engine bay, so as you can imagine wires and such are not very attractive to me lol. Its different being this motor is all stock but I didn't want to have to run two huge black hoses over the manifold so i'm glad that it can be routed under.

Just a quick follow up. On the Crawford system, the stock tubes wont BOTH go under the intake manifold. But that's only because of the supplied length. There is room, you would just need to purchase a longer length of tubing (+3-4 inches) for the top most connection.

Is there any possibility of mounting this right next to the battery.

You might be able to figure something out. The bracket on the crawford is welded to the can so it might be a little tricky but you can always attach that bracket to a different bracket. There is enough room over there for the can but I haven't looked at potential mounting solutions.

That seems like a more logical "stock" looking location. I need to get one to see what what my options are..
