Aftermarket Intake Mani.

So, im starting to wonder how much boost this lil plastic manifold can hold.... I sure hope someone is developing an aftermarket one out of aluminum... This would be great. Please, someone, tell me that this is being done.

The plastic manifolds on the WRX can handle 30+ PSI. Generally they are better in every way than the old aluminum ones. I don't think that will be an issue.

I've seen north of 20psi on 15 year old BMW plastic manifolds.

Yall really think so? Im just so use to aluminum mani's that they seem sceptical... But, do they really flow that much better?

I doubt the material used would affect flow much if at all, its more a matter of the way the manifold is designed that affects flow.

Still im sure we will see aftermarket ones soon.

Plastic is smoother than cast aluminum and has less heatsoak.

Arguably, it is not as shiny. But that can be overlooked for the sake of performance.

Is it really plastic? I thought it was a composite fiber material. FRM?

At any rate, it is much more rigid and won't melt until very high temperatures.

Well, it's not a Ford plastic manifold, so I think we're safe

Though I would be interested to see if Cosworth designs a manifold for the FA20 like the one they make for the EJ257:

I was running around 20psi on my LGT manifold and never had an issue. The stock top mount would fail way before. Never heard of any issues with the plastic manifold to be honest. They are not prone to heatsoak like the aluminum ones that are found on the STI.

Think about the pressures that a 2 liter soda bottle can take. I don't know any figures offhand but a quick Google search is giving me 70+ psi....

Don't assume that just because it's not metal that it is weak...

Plastic manifolds are fine, plenty of LSx guys make 700+ with an LS6 style plastic one, or even more with a FAST 90/92/102mm intake manifold - had a 102mm on my corvette.
