How much do you estimate the 86 will depreciate?

So after some debates with some friends, off comments from people saying it's stupid to buy a new car, and general curiosity. I'm wondering how well you all think the 86/BRZ will keep its value?

A quick look on carsales shows the 86 GTS AT is demanding an ~8k premium on ex demo stock! So by that reference the car has already appreciated in "perceived value", however we all know that's simply due to current supply/demand issues.

So after the dust has settled, the demand has been filled, a couple of new versions released, and there's 100,000kms on the clock; what do you think your car will be worth in 5 years time?

I'll be closer to 50,000 Kim's in 5 years and IMO it depends on whether a trd/sti comes out in that span. New Supra shouldn't affect it too much. I'll go with $18k for manual GTS.

it will very much depends on demand.

for example a 99 DC2R was selling around $18k in 2009 (ie 10 years old). they were around $42k brand new. 43% for a 10 yo car is very good.

Interesting question. Forced me to google this lol. Found this article from Nov 11 http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and..._your_next_car

Based on it i plugged some estimated number to get to what they think the value is after 3-5 years and extrapolate (very back of the envelope) and basically the difference between the high depreciating cars (large cars) and low deprecating cars (sports cars) is about $6k after 5 years using a 40k gts as my base (10k - 16k).

Realistically once the dust settles the rate will be somewhere in between those 2.

Obviously depends on how long you plan on holding onto the car. After 8-9 years we're looking at a difference of 3-4k.

Obviously there is a big difference in the early years.

Really?! I'm actually planning to drive my car that was designed for driving, haha. Although I imagine everyone is different, but i'm doing ~20,000kms per year just on basic getting to work/normal life... not including the long mountain cruises and driving just for the sake of it i'm planning with the 86.

I'm hoping that after 5 years, a GTS AT would still demand ~$25k

Yeah I aim to do about the same as my Supra (30k in 5 years), but I'll probably end up daily driving it instead of my other cars haha.
