That's what I would've assumed, but the article states otherwise. I'm not saying I believe that, it seemed to come completely out of nowhere.

nearly every car I've owned has a learning ECU that learns over ~100ish miles the engines natural tendencies and adjusts its fuel, timing, throttle, etc... settings around this so as to maximize emissions, economy and power. This is part of the reason why when you unplug the battery and clear the CMOS "memory" your car won't pass inspection, it needs go through several drive cycles to settle out.

I don't see how the ECU could get permanently "locked" into settings after 100 miles. What happens when you reflash the car just due to a regular ECU update?

Got a call from my dealership - parts on backorder "They are in pretty high demand" (really?? wonder why????) They hope to have them in sometime next week. Also spoke to my caseworker (Tanesha) yesterday who told me that she wont be able to call me again till Tuesday, and that she is doing all she can, since I only opened the ticket a couple of days ago.

Next time we speak, I dont think I am going to be as nice a guy as she has talked to so far. I have to admit that I am starting to get more than just a little mad about the whole situation. I got the car on August 16th, after waiting 6 weeks to have it delivered. (Part of which was because my salesman never actually ORDERED the car until I made a stink with the GM and had already turned one down at another dealership). Now, I will have been without it for at least a week and a half - which means that I have actually had the car in my posession for around 35 days, but Toyota/Scion has had my $$ and car for a total of 53 since this ordeal began.

We are nearing the breaking point, I do believe.

I'd like to know how you are getting a NEW ECU so fast. Mine is on back order until NOVEMBER 1. Been in the shop19 days already.... waiting...

I do have an fr-s tho... are they exactly the same parts between the FR-S and the BRZ?

Well, I'm not sure about the FRS, but I know they just received the Subaru ones in Indiana today. So at the latest it'll be Tuesday.

Mine was in the shop for only 5 days. They had a Subaru tech come out and did the redflashed plus new ECU. Drive the car 50+ miles now and it seem to be just fine.

Quick update, got my car back from the dealer for the fuel pump fix.
Car is still hunting at idle. I met with a Toyota/Scion field tech specialist this morning before getting the car. He says all should be fine now. I'm not so sure yet.
Crickets are gone now though !!! I dont want to have to make my next 59 payments if the car can't seem to figure out what to do at a stop sign !!! LOL
Going to ask for a 8yr 100,000 mile warranty. If Toyota believes in this car it won't cost them a dime.

As promised the four missing seals arrived today and the team at my dealership started putting the engine back togeather again. My mechanic along with a trainee and a new area service manager were all nose deep in the repair.

When I spoke to the service manager I asked him to ensure the tech's agresessively test drove the car (I literally told him to "drive it like they stole it"). I also asked him to take the car home and back (he lives about 37 miles away from the dealer). Both times the code came up the car was freeway crusing. I'm hoping they put at least 100 hard and easy miles on the car. Plain and simple if this is going to break again, I want it to break in their hands.

EVERYONE PLEASE NOTE: My service manager was unaware the FR-S required premium fuel. Please make sure you communicate with everyone responsible for your repairs and insist they fill the car up with premium, 93 octane fuel. To be on the safe side when you turn in your car in for this (or any) repairs, I would do it with a full tank.

Finally I received a call from my Scion rep confirming what the dealership had told me. Clayton said he would follow up on Monday with both of us.

By tommrow my car will have been at the dealer for 28 days total, there's 7 "business" days left before Lemon Law applies.

(The IL Lemon law states I have to be without my car for 30 "business days" within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles to compel action on the part of the manufacture. Because the dealer doing the work is an agent of Toyota, and their repair facilities and staff operate on Sataturday, I can count Saturday as a business day in IL)

So are you getting close to your Lemon Law thresholds?

Update: Another deadline, another excuse from Scion. I had to call and found that the ECU did not arrive and they have no ETA at this time. Clayton didn't want to give me a date this time without digging further. I'm losing count of how many times they have told me it would be ready.
Have I been in the shop the longest? This is 5.5 weeks now. I can't even remember what it feels like to drive the car.
I'm about to give up.
