Jalopnik article on the CEL issue:

Jalopnik article on the CEL issue:

http://jalopnik.com/5948647/heres-ho...s-idle-problem

Now, I have to ask, is this an attempt at damage control, since we have seen people having this exact repair with the problem reoccurring?

they have been in damage control mode since the very first issue came up.

Congratulations Everyone! We now have visibility! :happy0180:

At low RPMs, an issue is causing the cars to shudder, idle rough, and in some cases stall. And it isn't five or ten cars. FT86 Club has 121 owners listed that have experienced the issue, which means it is probably apparent on more cars that aren't owned by forum members...

unfortunately the only visibility is them thinking the problem is solved because Toyota told them an ECU flash solves the problem when we obviously know it does not.

I wonder if those statement regarding update of ECM are just "lets say this now since it sounds least drama even if we have no clue what to really do"?

Do we know who in Toyota/Subaru jalopnik actually asked? Are they high up and aware or just some puppets?

I guess we'll see what happens...it is good to see this information getting out. This will hopefully force Toyota and Subaru to be more efficient with the repair process...I just have doubts that a reflash alone will work

There is an update there with a comment from Subaru.

Quote:
Just to clarify, this is a simple ECU mapping issue that is fixed using a re-flash of the ECU and it is an extremely rare condition found in a small number of US Subaru BRZ vehicles. Customers will be alerted to the issue by a check engine light.
The condition causes no damage to the engine and a TSB is in-process.
It is not related to mileage and no replacement of the ECU is needed at any mileage to rectify the issue, the ECU re-flash is the fix.
The issue is caused through the ECUs reaction to normal mechanical variations and is statistically very small. There has already been a fix at the factory level and it was an ECU mapping change, not an engineering process or mechanical modification. The ECU mapping was too restrictive in the original mapping set up.
What I don't understand is, if the fix is as simple as they say, then why are there so many people with their cars in shop...?

Exactly... Everything being said by Toyota and Subaru is a smokescreen for a larger issue at hand. The ECU flash is an attempt to band aid a fix.
