Who really care's if it's a chick car? If girls like it, then they're more likely to talk to you if you pull up in it!

I could live with the Celica name, if it meant an NA 300 hp H6 (50% more power and cylinders) Celica Supra with a bit of re-styling in the very near future.

Also if it is heavier than my desired 2420 lbs (GT5 weight +10%).

If it's in the 2700 lbs range, I feel it will have missed the lightweight target, and the attachment to the AE86 will not really be that strong. So add another 100-200 lbs to that with the H6 and a bit of a stretch front ways to keep the weight centralized, and bang, Celica Supra. Turbo the next model to 450 hp, keep the weight under 3000lbs, voila Supra's back and eating GT-Rs like nothing.

Dreams...

I'm not going to pay more than $20k for that AND if I have to it better be fully loaded with leather, sunroof.. L-O-A-D-E-D" this is what the majority of buyers are going to think, not us enthusiasts or purists who prefer a light, sports car without those creature comforts.

Calling it a Celica affords them more $$$, than putting the car into the Corolla segment. Same reason why someone would buy a Subaru version for a few grand more. Name and brand. You know the Celica.. CelicaSupra lineage. This could be a door opener for a possible new Supra with a 325hp+ H6/H6T BASED on this chassis to fight the upcoming RX-9 that will be based off the new smaller miata chassis in 2013. You never know, depends how the market receives this car.

I can only imagine the name is being used for future car progression and to bring in the higher dollar.

That makes absolutely no sense what so ever. Nobody is suggesting to name this a Corolla. They certainly aren't going to name it Celica to charge more money. Most people definitely don't remember the Celica Supra lineage. You're talking about over 30 years ago. People don't spend more money on a name. Not one person will spend a dime more on this car just because it's named Celica.

And for the love of Christ! Stop trying to turn this car into Toyota's attempt at making inroads to a new Supra. If they wanted a new Supra they would just fucking make one. There is absolutely no indication that Toyota is even thinking about it right now. They are constantly evaluating the markets and trying to predict where they will be. If they feel there's market share to be had they will make a Supra and it will be huge and create a lot of buzz. But it will be 3 - 4 years before it ever hit the streets.

Also people spend a few grand more on a Subaru because it comes in a wagon with AWD. There's not much to compare it too. As it stands Subaru doesn't have anything to compare too in the Compact market. I think there's the Fusion and the Venza and those are the only two AWD Wagons I can think of. But when you compare the price of those Cars they are pretty equal.

The 2000+ Celicas were the first non traditional sports car configuration of the car and that somewhat failed miserably, I say somewhat only because everything about that car I liked, the only thing the car needed was RWD, it was written all over it. If they aren't bring all-trac back at least revert back to old RWD days.

They should of never used the 86 number name lineage as they have but instead say: "This is the return of an iconic compact sports car, from road racing to it's roots in rally. THIS is the NEW 2012 Toyota Celica with a special focus on weight and balance derived from it's little sibling the old AE86 Corolla. We at Toyota always wanted to improve on the Celica and as such we feel this is the right direction for our company."

Now think if you were going to use a new chassis and you shared the chassis with Subaru. What would you name your car for future possible purposes. CELICA means it could be RWD or say AWD in the future, what better way then to partner with Subaru on this. They could do a GT-FOUR with Subarus AWD and model the chassis or Supra in existing chassis, it's a win-win.

I guess when you become an executive at Toyota you can tell them what they should/shouldn't do. Until they did exactly what they wanted to do. Which is draw upon the AE86 heritage.

NOT THE TOYOTA CELICA HERITAGE. THIS IS NOT A TOYOTA CELICA.

No matter how badly you want it too be.

Sounds like he bought the Toyota Sprinter domain name in anticipation that Toyota would need to buy it from him. He's been checking the toyotacelica.com domain name which used to load nothing up until recently. Now it redirects to the Toyota homepage which implies Toyota only recently purchased this domain name. Think about it...

Toyota has owned that domain since 1998, their DNS servers just didn't point it to anything for awhile. That could have been an oversight due to a lack of a Celica that was discovered randomly, or it could be so people thinking it'll be called the Celica would go there to see and get to toyota.com instead...

If Toyota owns a trademark on the Toyota Sprinter name (I'm sure they do) and they want that domain name it wouldn't be a purchase. It'd be a C&D and lawsuit and he'll have to give it to them.

All of the names aren't very attractive, but FR-S is the only decent one IMO.
