I quite like Alex Roy, a lot of people don't understand him. The Kurt Cobain of automotive journalism.

Took me about 10m to find a link to the original that wasn't broken.

Well, last weekend's race was a bit 'short'.

Here's 3 corners of the first lap!

damn, how bad was the damage?

BTW, the car looked great, pulling away from the field after every corner.
I'd love to know what's done to the engine to make it pull like that and stay within the class rules...?

I heard from one guy, that was running showroom stock class, that he would fully port the head then go over it with a sand blaster to make it look like it was cast that way. He'd also machine the block and sides of the pistons down so the center of the piston was farther into the combustion chamber but allowing him to stay within the specs of the engine as far as piston height went. Gotta love how much can be done while still staying within the rules.

Right rear quarter is done. It will have to be cut off and a new one welded in. Subframe looks ok but I suspect it may have moved slightly, like an 1/4", something that can be easily remedied on a rack. The wheel is bent and I'm not sure but I may need to replace the trailing arm, if not at least the hub/bearing/spindle just for safety and peace of mind.

The hard part is that I often don't make mistakes and when I do it only affects me. Losing the rear was my mistake on the opening lap of a crowded field and I was lucky to correct it (could have been MUCH worse) but the correction resulted the car crossing the track and swiping the Datsun (a friend of mine) which ended his race. I didn't sleep a wink on Sunday night as I had this replaying in my head over and over.

Your guy that is porting then sandblasting his head modifying his pistons is not staying withing in the rules. If he is indeed running showroom stock then that is cheating. Rule books work like this: If the book doesn't say you can, then you cannot." The showroom stock rulebook in the GCR does not say you can modify your pistons or port your head, he is blatantly cheating. Which is pretty weak, especially since there's no prizes, no money, not TV sponsorship... he's really only cheating himself which is even weaker.

As far as my car, it's built to the extent of the Improved Touring rules which you can find in the SCCA GCR.
