Good to see you and your wife are safe! I've had to swerve/brake to avoid deer in the past, thank goodness for nimble, sporty cars.

I've hated deer ever since one rammed the side of my car a few years back, leaving a nice head-shaped dent in the side. Darwin-award candidate.

To the OP, glad you're OK. I'm actually quite amazed that your car looks as good as it does. I could have sworn that most of the time, if the airbag goes off, it cracks your windshield.

I guess he never fully thought out the expression of, "deer in headlights".
Your friend was correct. When there is a deer on the side of the road and you already too close to fully stop, you accelerate instead of slowing down. They will panic and run pretty much no matter what you do, and by accelerating you make them run into the side of the car instead of the front. Hurt their nose, maybe a dent in the side of the car, but you don't get a deer through the windshield.

If it's already in front of you that's a different story.

So sorry to hear about your accident! Especially for a fellow Idaho BRZ owner. Hope all goes well!

Oh deery? Glad your ok. There are plenty of stories of deer entering the cabin through the windshield and killing the driver. Scary.

I've always heard that you should maintain your speed, slowing down or speeding up causes a sharp change in sound that spooks them easier. It's treated me well over the years....knock on wood.

I've always slowed down to 10-15mph a couple hundred feet from them, but being that I grew up where there are several on the road every night you learn to spot them before you're too close to stop. If I actually got into a situation that I needed to accelerate or anything I don't know if I could do it after years of stopping well away from them.

I only wish I would have had that opportunity.

Yeah no kidding. Is this being classified as no fault or are they going to jack your rates up?
