Paddle Shifters
is it annoying to have the paddles on the steering wheel rather than the column?
seems like if you just made a turn, you have to straighten out your wheel to shift. also, can you hold the rpm's without it shifting by itself in sport mode? or do you have to turn everything off? thanks |

Sometimes the paddles are a bit awkward to hit when the steering wheel is turned 90 degrees in a direction, but I suppose they work fine where they are.
The car will shift for you if it notices that you are going to try to redline it in like first gear or something so that you dont do any damage. It will also shift down for you if the rpms get well below 1000 so that it doesnt stall or flood or something. |

I believe what was being referred to is down-shifting. The 6AT will not let you downshift into an over-rev situation. So, if you're close to redline in second you can't downshift to first.

In any gear actually. The AT will only prevent a change if you will go over redline, or force a change down if you are going so slow the car would stall (driving in 6th car at 5MPH for example).
When the 1st86 were in CA, and I test drove it, I kept getting the paddles "backwards" in manual. I downshifted several times when I meant to upshift, so I learned early on what it would do. The "ride along" from Scion kept giving me the evil eye..
