Nice review!! hahaha
At first you reminded me of Nicholas Cage somewhat in the way he speaks etc. But then you mentioned the bit about Star Trek.. and then I thought.. "Hmm you remind me of Brent Spiner(Data/Lore)" LOL I can see why you are upset with the car though. I'd be pissed off for a 2 month wait to get a NEW CAR fixed. I take it the Prius was the 'loaner' car lol |

Excellent review! It must be this younger generation thing for you guys to get bent when someone makes a honest review. "The interior is glorified fisher price toy!" ![]() "... Toyota and Subaru did the exact opposite, they didn't put their $$ in the exterior, because it doesn't look anything like the concept. In fact, I think a lot of the styling was totally neutered!" I think he makes perfect sense in all aspects.

My only objection is of this use of this phrase in one his posts, "what made older Jap cars in the 90s cool". The word "Jap" is derogatory and simply should not be used. I presume that using this word is out of ignorance and not malice. Please, everyone, drop this word from your posts. Last edited by master345; 09-28-2012 at 04:04 PM. |

Well at least he didn't complain about the lack of power like everyone else. That little blue thing he likes so much is horrible I drove one and couldn't wait to get out of it. I understand that there are better cars out there but they are not as much fun and it comes with a warranty so who cares if it breaks they have to fix it. My friend had the ECU give out in his they fixed it in an afternoon not 2 months.

I don't have an issue with his review. His opinions are valid, though I disagree with some.
He calls the interior fisher price grade which I think is not accurate. Spartan would be a better descriptor. The interior materials quality is quite good, but it is pretty plain, especially in regards to the seats. You can always pay more and get a Limited BRZ if you like and have an interior which won't wow anyone but is at least good looking. Even my non car friends appreciate the ergonomics of the seats and driving position. While I would like a slightly snazzier interior (ala BRZ Premium) I don't want it enough to pay for it. The interior is well designed with regard to functionality even if it is uninspiring to look at. I don't think it detracts from the car's mission of being an affordable drivers car. As far as the exterior, he is absolutely right the car was toned down versus the concept, probably because Toyota didn't have the guts to do something more outlandish and instead decided to go with a more traditional style. However, sometimes erring on the side of caution is a smart move, especially for a car sold worldwide in many different trims. I for one am glad they went with a more classic style. It harkens back to distant sport car predecessors, borrowing many cues and the overall sports car look. Plus it LOOKS like a car, whereas the veloster and my 8th gen civic look less like cars and more like a shuttle out of star trek. The 86 isn't trying to be a funky new age vehicle for young buyers, it's trying to be a sports car. Judging by the reaction from old school and fast and furious generation enthusiasts they did pretty well. The fact it actually looks the way it does goes to show how awkward it is that it is marketed as a Scion. Most of the people I work with are truck guys, but even they all love the look of the FR-S and are blown away when they see the Scion badge. "Is this how they're making Scions now?" they usually ask. No, but it's how they are making this one.

I hoped the throttle response would be better with the turbo and that I could make the suspension better with the help of the aftermarket. When I looked around, there was no aftermarket. You can get a strut tower bar, but options are very limited past that. Then with availability, no dealer could give me any idea when they were getting the turbos. I got a call a month after we bought the FR-S that one of the dealers was getting a turbo. I have no regrets. -Justin

I liked this review. The foul mouthed language certainly seems out of place when talking about these two cars. I would 4uck a Ferrari all nite though. The sarcastic humor could use some polish, but this guy is fun to listen to.
I really like that I come away from this review STOKED about the car he seems so sarcastic about!!!! I started driving in 1985!!! 280ZX and second gen RX7 all the way, unless you went for the IROC-Z 305 TPI 5-speed. Ohh the memories Miami Vice linen outfits, swatches, and gold chains. I wanted a BRZ in the 1980s, all the old 240Zs were falling apart by then. They had cardboard interiors. |

I knew it was the guy who did the Nexus 7 install when he said he owned a Veloster. I'm pretty respectful of someone who posted a DIY here and stuff so I dont look down on him for owning a Veloster and I can see that his thoughts on the 86 are fairly MEH and that's tempered by the recall and the fact it is just a $25k car.
I like people like this more than the fanboys who cant seem to take any criticism. Its just a car, its not who you are. The review shows someone who isn't swept up in the hysteria. Its not the second coming of christ. |

This was a good review, the Woody Allen of car enthusiasts. I love the move he makes, he really slamms the Veloster more than the FRS. He's like I drove the FRS and loved it but stops his enthusiams "needs a new ECU and I don't know maybe cam gears. "
When this problem is resolved, I really hope this guy does another review after he gets his ECU and maybe cam gears. But I don't think he's all that woried about the rec**l. Its the parts availability thing. Part availablity can kill insurance rates, and make an economical car very expensive to drive. Think 97 Elise (it sold for around $40k) but cost more than a viper to drive. Parts availability will get better the more these things sell. Hopefully once the ECU is on the shelf, there won't be a need for other parts till 100k miles, by then common wear items will be economical if enough of these cars sell. Before Civics were popular you couldn't find parts anywhere, exact same situation. Years later you could replace the timing belt, water pump and radiator for $200 because there was a huge owner market. |

yes this is sooo true! this is an important consideration when buying this car.
parts availability,as well as the cost factor could be an issue for at least a few years thankfully, the warranty should get us through until prices and availability stabilizes. |
