Just picked up my car. Everything seems ok. When I come to a stop the idle dips a tad, you hear the typical low idle vibes, then it stablizes at 700rpms, Power in the upper rpms seems slightly better. I will post my invoice when I get home, but it shows the following;
SU003-00096 - VALVE AY-OIL CONT SU003-04522 - UNIT-EGI CONTROL I see nothing about oil or coolant on the invoice. I was told they would change the oil and coolant, but not sure now if that happened or not. Gotta say it feels good to be in the FR-S again! I will keep everyone posted on my results after a few days of driving. I will also mention to the Scion Rep about the idle dropping and see what they say.

So anyhow, so far I'm not very happy with the inconsistent idle, it drops, it raises, it settles, it drops again. Not liking that. And I think I hear a ticking

FYI, this list was started exactly five weeks ago and since that time, we have 115 owners noting specific CEL/idle issues. I have been seeing an average addition of about 2 owners per day with no sign of slowing (Should this latest ECU update not solve the problem, the rate of occurrence could greatly increase).
Statistically speaking, it is not possible at this time to accurately determine the percentage of affected owners. However, for entertainment purposes I'll try to approximate based on a couple of assumptions: Roughly 8000 vehicles have been sold - not all have made it into consumers hands, but we'll round up anyway (some were used in marketing, car mags, safety orgs, other testing, etc.). Let's say 50% of the owners (4000) take time to read internet forums. Of those 50%, only about half (2000) will post anything to the ft86club forum. Therefore, one can't simply take 115 (ft86club owners) and divide it by 8000 for a percentage of 1.4%. That would assume every owner would read internet forums, would find the ft86club forum, and would be willing to post to it. Using a more realistic (IMO) sampling of 2000 owners, we would get a value of 5.7%. That said, @Art_Mighty's approximation of 5% to 7% affected may not be very far off... if i press my gas pedal very slow in nuetral.. i can get to a point about 3/4 of an inch in pedal movement.. before rpms move at all.. i can create a ticking noise... if i blip gas pedal quickly and lightly .. i can get teh rpms to DROP before they go up... under WOT from a 5mph roll my car has very low power it feels.. when im moving and rpms are closer to 3kish car pulls great i have about 120 miles on my cam gear and egi repair... meeting oct 17th with toyota and 3rd party arbitrator.. i just dont like the way the car feels.. even after repair... hopefully i get what ive requested and that is to walk away from deal. and i woudl cover interest expense on 2 months ive owned the car.. my insurance costs and whatever "usage" fee they wanna throw at me for my 225 miles ive put on the car. |

This is not the end.
This is not the beginning. This is not the beginning of the end. It is not even the end of the beginning. Computers make very quick and very precise mistakes, if this was one of those it would come up for everyone by the time they got home. I assume that Subaru in their infinite wisdom has designed one computer and replicated it a few thousand times rather than making each one unique. Either all of us have a failing timer module or that thing is not kidding about the engine problem. Personally I'd like to know the cause of the error and not the symptoms before making repairs that mask the symptoms and lead to valve shaped hood ornaments. |
