Gee, hope Subaru follows suit. I've had "crickets" off and on. They seemed to go away with my recent tankful of Shell V-Power 93 octane though. Maybe I'll have to fill up with Costco 93 before taking it in for service.

If you read the TSB, they will only replace parts if they hear the chirp. This is not a recall notice so unless you have the noise, they won't do anything.

I'll drive it with a buddy for the 10 minutes and see if we hear the chirp when the engine is warmed up. I'll take the excuse to give it a spirited drive

Don't rule out the other option that something wasn't installed or spec'd right in the process.

If the pump was installed incorrectly (loose or potentially in a different orientation or incorrect torque) the part itself could be fine... but the part as installed from the factory could have an issue based on process.

They may have deemed that the improper process itself, or driving with it installed improperly could damage the part, so the fix is to install a new-same part (just in case your original pump was damaged due to improper installation), with a corrected process and it's gone.

that seems pretty feasible to me, if a HPFP isn't attached robustly and moves with its duty cycle, it can EASILY produce a consistent cyclical squeak during operation.

This also makes PERFECT sense why there is variation in the final products.

Gotta make sure to do it on a warmer day when I show a tech. Seems it doesn't want to do it when it's cold out.

Sorry to hear that this happened to you... But this is exactly what I am talking about.

If it's something that affects the drivability of the vehicle; then you really have no choice but to bring it in for a warranty fix.

Also... If this part is already working properly and you decided to go ahead in changing it to the same part; there's a chance now that you might get an actual defective one...

No offense to those here who do work at the dealers; much respect for you if you do take great care of all your customers/cars the way you would treat your own as if new. There are too many that just do not care.

I'll go down to the dealership this weekend to start this TSB. I will get a sharpie and make a subtle mark on the parts they should be replacing, just in case they decide to lie and not even perform the replacements since the part # is the same.

Overall tho, this is great! This is the only post-purchase complaint I had.

They're ordering parts for my car right now. Their boss is pissed that every TSB needed/problem I'm having I have the tsb documents before they do.

Just for the record:
.
I definitely have it... Just don't feel like letting the dealer mess with the car unless it truly comes to bothering me more, and if it were to ever affect the drive of the car... Will wait it out a bit to muster up the motivation.
